Just collected my Mi Max 3 from NewStar Electronic this afternoon. It was unlocked version with global rom (9.6.4.0) installed. I was a bit concerned at first after reading so many negative comments about this rom. They offerred me a choice to take this (as all the sets they brought in are pre-installed with global rom) or they will make a full refund for me. I did not want to re-order a new set and wait so I decided to try my luck. Played with it for a while, other than I do not quite trust this rom for security reason because it is from an unknown source, I find the global rom quite nice - much smoother and faster than the Mi Max 2.

I went xiaomi.eu site and downloaded the "TWRP_nitrogen", "xiaomi.eu_multi_MIMAX3_8.7.26_v10-8.1" and "Magisk-v16.4" and installed them according to the installation guide provided by the website (https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/8-7-26.45259/). The installation was smooth without any problem and completed in about 15 mins (with magisk). The installation are briefly as follows:-

1) Unlock bootloader (this phone comes with bootloader unlocked)
2) Install twrp (downloaded from xiaomi.eu website) with adb
3) Flash eu rom (format data before that & this is the extra step taken by me)
4) flash magisk

Ya! 9.6.4.0 is confirmed a fake rom.

Based on what I read at xda. The solution is:

1. Miflash to official China MIUI 10 Beta rom to restore the system/partition to official one first.

2. Twrp to eu rom MIUI 10 Beta to repair the recovery portion.

With that, you basically resolved the mismatched of the 3 and so that Xiaomi cannot detect your fake rom's trace and therefore allowed you to miflash to official rom thereafter, be it Stable or Beta.

"Miflash to official China MIUI 10 Beta rom to restore the system/partition to official one first."

This step doesn't seem neccessary at least in my case for the successful installation of eu rom. I won't know if there will be any problem when come to installation of other custom roms in the future.

One clarification to the installation. After flashing the rom, reboot. Then go to recovery again to flash magisk otherwise, magisk will fail to install.

This step is not needed if you go straight to TWRP eu rom from the fake rom. However, this step might be crucial if you wanna Miflash back to official ROM for trouble shooting or for whatever reason in the future.

Yes! You are right! That demo guy did a "shortcut"! By right, the proper procedure has always been, TWRP eu rom > Reboot > TWRP Magisk > Reboot and Happiness! :)

Anyway,

Just gotten a reply from eu.

In fact, eu has stopped cooking MIUI 9 series of Stable ROM for all devices after MIUI 9.5.

eu rom will only start cooking Stable ROM from MIUI 10 onwards.

Therefore, the only eu rom which is available to flash is MIUI 10 Beta for the time being until Xiaomi releases the MIUI 10 Stable ROM for Mi Max 3!

If I can miflash back to the official rom now, I guess I should be able to do the same in the case it is needed at a later time unless something goes wrong in between. You may be right. Let's cross that bridge when one comes to it. :)

Ya! That's right! :)

Let's see how it goes.

I will only be able to do so after UBL on this Saturday afternoon. :)
