well...from recent news reports it appears that Hongmeng OS is an IoT OS after all, not necessarily a phone OS. that means it will need much more development for it to become suitable for phone use.

It is difficult to believe Huawei does not allow CCP to access the data. However, I believe all major network equipment makers and telcos share their their data with the government upon request.

No need upon request. Is default rnteoll to govt security thing. Otherwise ,how they crack down terrorist?last time my friend sms said bomb related at 1 of the place and Kenna. Whole section bring to drink coffee. They got system to capture those keyword .

And if u naive to believe that WhatsApp encrypted their msg then you are real stupid. The day before my friend ask me download kok game to play at WhatsApp. Next day, Facebook advertisment spam me KOK advertisment. Really wtf.

Yet Huawei claimed that HM is 60% faster than Google Android when HM is not even available. Huawei lying again? I don't even know if I can trust Huawei anymore.

whatever it is, Hongmeng is vapourware at this point. no one has seen it except perhaps Huawei fanboys.

also the claimed speedup compared to Android, sure you can do that if you precompile the apps. but when you do so, you should precompile the app with optimisations specific to the kind of CPU that's on the phone. I think Huawei can definitely do that since they use their own Kirin CPUs. but other phone manufacturers who may intend to adopt a smartphone-oriented Hongmeng OS will be at a disadvantage if they use MediaTek or Qualcomm CPUs.

well now, even the founder of Huawei has changed his tune and admitted that the much-vaunted "Hongmeng" OS is not for smartphone use :p

"if it's too good to be true, it probably is"

Huawei HarmonyOS: This Will Not Replace Android On Smartphones, Despite Media Reports

https://www.forbes.com/sites/zakdof...ut-its-bad-news-for-smartphones/#5d3a13534b61

What Huawei is trying to said in layman terms is that IF Donald Trump's US administrations really cut off the ties between Google & Huawei, they will have "No Choice" to implement their own OS.

Huawei has admitted Huawei HarmonyOS is not for "smartphone" use is not to offend their business partners Google. :s8:

No Google services not for me for sure. I don't care how good the hardware is but no software support not going to use it.

My take is the new OS could allow Google Play to be installed and allow the Google Apps to run.

it's not easy to build a developer ecosystem for an OS. you can ask Microsoft about that :) not even all the money and influence they had could compel developers to support Windows Phone, and look what they eventually did.

so good luck to Huawei. Harmony OS looks good on paper, microkernel and all. when it finally comes out, maybe we'll see if it's really worth something. otherwise, my bet is that most devs would stick to the two horse race of iOS and Android.

So ark is now harmony?

Yes but not meant for mobile phone
Huawei die hard fans must be so disappointed because previously Huawei said until got dragon got tiger surely can use new OS that is not based on Android.

Now proved that Huawei is just a cunning corporation

While I like Huawei products in general, I don't think I would ever hold them up as a modal corporation they try to appear to be.

If they do well, they do well. If they don't, they don't. If they launch a product I like, I buy it.

But I won't go crazy, and ever say "poor Huawei." 😢 And get all emotional like I recently saw when they were on the banned list. Wow, that's not rational reaction.

It's all about profits for corporations....

Agree the odds are stacked against them for a successful new OS. There are two significant differences between MS's phone attempt and Huawei: they have already a significant market share to kick start the OS. Plus there is a chance other Chinese mfg will climb aboard because they can also see a future when the US uses Android as a weapon against them.

Huawei won't open or can say even Huawei allow others to use their os. I don't think others would use too. Too many concern.
