To be fair not all white label formulas are bad tho, a lot of salon grade products are in fact white label haha. I just kind of expected more from gerson as they advertised it to be SG weather enduring hold + good for fine hair. Plus they have a decent following.. But it really fell short for me.

Follow up from my previous post about Gerson and Co. Original pomade

Spoke to someone who is an experienced Gerson user - he claims that I'm using the product wrongly. U have to have it restyled with wet hands / comb in order to reinforce the hold, otherwise you'd just be breaking it apart like dried glue.

Might try this method if i choose to try the product again some time down the road. Does anyone here who has experience with gel types know if "wet" restyling is a must? I've personally used another local brand's gel type and have had much better luck restyling with dry hands though.

i have a lot of gel pomades and i own only 2 waxs so far (arcadian matte paste and stickmore). i would say all gel pomades needs to restyle with a bit of water or u will have a hard time if u restyle it like wax/clay products.

gel pomades are a whole new learning curve compared to waxs. i didn't like it at first, it's an acquired taste. but it started to grow onto me due to its reliability and sleekness.

i have a bottle of g&c too, works well with me in this weather, would describe it as matte sleek.

hmmm i see... i do own a couple of gel pomades that doesn't need wet restyling even for a few hours but the hold is quite bad. but eventually, still need to wet restyle if it hardens up. really depends on how long it has been set on your hair. unless u are referring to oil based like goon grease, water based types will harden unless there is some oil in there.

what do u think of oil based pomades? Are there any other brands u can recommend apart from goon grease?

Frankly pomades / shine products aren't my expertise. I'm more of a matte product user.

If youre referring to gel pomade like "hardening", then no. But the product feel itself is pretty stiff to begin with, so expect plenty of resistance during application and re styling. But that's a tradeoff for its mad hold - still the product with the highest strength to weight ratio that I've tried.

If hold is your only priority when it comes to a product, this fella is the one for you. Brute strength, weightless. Boom.

Have about medium long hair ( fringe till nose) and behind maybe 1 inch shorter.
I am looking for a product (no magic here) but something suitable for thick wavy hair to comb all back. Something that can resist the sweat heat etc and lightweight .
Any recommendations?
Ive tried anchor clay (blue one), firsthand clay, MM balm and nothing really suited where I can arrange back in place with hand or comb. Any recommendations? I've tried pomade base and I think alot just melt in the heat. Cheap ones ex ones.

Roger. Thanks. Was thinking of using it for small stubborn areas only. Since little is use, still considering if worth to get it. As of now I am trying to reduce to 1-2 types and current already have 3.

I have similar hair length to you and will wear a combed/slicked back look. Blowdrying with MM Chrome or Firsthand Supply's all purpose pomade works well for me.

Indians clay doesnt harden. Syoss wax is one that hardens.
As the name suggests, clay typically don't harden and it's pliable.

If you're one looking for a fuss-free product w good hold to survive in SG's climate, my 2cents is to give this a try.

Dry shampoo is catered to a very niche market. One good example will be for mummies doing their confinement, who are advised not to come into contact w water for a certain period of time. Hence, the usefulness for dry shampoo comes in.

It's not common for people to use dry shampoo, as 1) it's not as effective as the conventional shampoo in terms of cleansing 2) frequent usage of dry shampoo can cause your hair to feel dry and brittle

Thus, unless there's a legit reason for using dry shampoo, there isn't any direct benefits for you in using this over the conventional types.

You've described it very well that there are far too many options in the market. What works for others, may not work that well for us. But to share my thoughts too, you may like to consider the below products as possible options.

1. Indians Molding Clay (Dry-clay): Comes w matte finish, strong hold and lightweight

2. Indians Dry Shaper (Soft-clay): Comes w matte finish, medium hold and lightweight

For thick hair, both options are possible for you. The advantage of having thick hair is that you will be able to hold styles well, but assumption is that you did not let it succumb to the high weight of the hair first. To combat against the weight of your hair, the best bet is to complement it with a pre-styler (there's no magic here either). Based on your style, I would think option #2 is something that is more suited for you.

Option #1 goes well with any pre-styler (i.e. seasalt spray, hair powder etc).
Option #2 goes best with hair mousse (particularly Screen Wakin hair mousse, as part of my trial for finding best combination).
