From wiki:
Article 45 gives the requirements for choosing the Chief Executive:
“ The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region shall be selected by election or through consultations held locally and be appointed by the Central People's Government.[1] ”
“ The method for selecting the Chief Executive shall be specified in the light of the actual situation in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and in accordance with the principle of gradual and orderly progress. The ultimate aim is the selection of the Chief Executive by universal suffrage upon nomination by a broadly representative nominating committee in accordance with democratic procedures.[1] ”

They were never promised that Universal Suffrage will be granted.
They assume it will be given because of having extracted a promise of a timetable of reform (2016 for the legislature and 2017 for the Chief Executive)

If they have behave well, there's room for negotiation. But after what they did, they will probably never get it.
The fact is that, we are close to the half way point of the 50yrs 1C2S philosophy and the PRC has continued to elect the CE without any prior democratic process. As outlined in the rule, the ultimate aim of the selection of the CE is by universal suffrage , however, I believe the HKers are getting impatient as the years drag on and more and more HKers believe that they will never see a democratically elected CE.

I believe ultimately they won't get it...
China is not going to dish out something that they can't offer to the rest of their state and citizens... I believe that much is a matter of fact...

Yea man, just look at the number of bricks thrown at the police. In western countries, they would have been fired at gun point. Such mercy to them :o

While watching the live stream of the attack on PolyU and how the frontliners desperately and repeatedly threw their homemade molatov at the armoured vehicle and water cannon truck, I cannot help but empathize with them. While I condem their violence, I cannot help but see their reason for doing it. The very fact that pushed them to violence is because they had lost faith in the democratic system and it doesn't help that the government, headed by CL continues to be oblivious to the sentiments on the ground. By pushing materiastic policies such as reform to the housing policies, CL has continued to show a stark disconnection between her govt and the public. Unlike the pro-dem exisiting and ex-members like Nathan, Claudia, Agnes and Joshua who continues to JJWW on social media from the comfort of their homes, the frontliners are the one that is at the forefront and has the most to lose. For those who say they should focus their effort on getting elected into the LegCo and reform from the inside, if y'all have read how the LegCo is disproptionaly advantageous to the Pro-China members, y'all would have an idea of why they had push them to violence. While this is not a support for the violence protestors....I empathise with them and applaud them for their effort and commitment to their cause.

I am afraid your analysis is wrong. These riots are in fact premeditated and the extradition bill is merely an excuse. The localists groups wanted independence and are willing to use fake news and violence to achieve their purpose. Unfortunately, a lot of Honkies including brainwashed students were misled by them.

CL only became HK's CE in 2017. The localists groups were planning for a rebellion and recruiting violent radicals even before CL became the CE.

Interview by AMDK on 18 Jun ( 3 days after CL suspended bill ) shows the duplicity of the protest leaders. They knew that CL suspension of bill was a de facto withdrawal but promoted lies that CL was plotting to revive bill.

Article 23 was in the basic law since 1997. It isn't even legislated into law yet and you want China to grant HK the vague ultimate goal of universal suffrage when one of the key conditions for autonomy isn't even met by HK? Lololol. You are joking, right?

It is a fact and common sense ma. If you are China, you also wouldn't grant HK universal suffrage when there are no laws against treason and secession despite article 23 being in HK's constitution. Lololol. You think China stupid meh? Let HK vote in pro independence politicians and do a Catalonia. Lololol

Under British Colonization, HKers has no say on the governor.
Moreover, the top officials are usually appointed by the British.

Right now, you have HKers actually taking such position instead of Chinese Nationals being installed.

China never promised HK true Universal Suffrage.
It's always a modified 1.
But there's always a way to change some of the rules like allowing more people to vote for the CE.

Through diplomacy and negotiation, you can get as close as you can to Universal Suffrage.
Building relationship isn't a matter of many many years.

I could empathize with their cause initially, however when they started attacking non-believers to their actions, they lost all credibility to me. I do not believe in such "democracy".

And let's be honest here, their cause will result in nothing but setback for the whole of HK. They don't see it yet, but when they and the people around them become poor, regret is too late.

@ this stage, it is too late for them to turn back liao....

PolyU campus is completely surrounded by police, there is no secret way to escape. The only way is to break police defence line by force.

Should fire live rounds or massive rubber bullets.
They can use TG as cover to escape if too many TG.
Police also cannot see anything if too many smoke
