For new BTO, just request the electrician to convert all your Cat 6 cable point to ethernet points in room and the DB point to all ethernet inputs. Place your router at the DB point or a separate cabinet beside it, connect to a POE switch, connect to the ethernet input at DB, connect AP from room ethernet pts. For gaming room, just connect to another switch for multiple devices. For wireless, it is either 1 AP in center, or if 2 APs then 1 at each end for smooth roaming around the house.

Hi guys,

After staying in my home for over a year I realized that all my rooms have an ethernet port. However when I tried to connect my laptop to it, no connection was detected. Must I call starhub for them the activate it?

My house wifi also super cui, currently on the starhub 1gbps plan, using the EA8100 that came with it. In my living room and the room next to it still got good connection but i the room furthest away (3 walls inbetween the room and router) the connection is non existent.

Should I get a new router?

The "In" to the various points in the room are in the DB Cabinet. From the Router, you would need to connect to the points there. If router doesn't have enough ports, you need to use a switch.

What you are experiencing for WiFi is a norm. Wifi travels in a straightline. So walls, furniture, doors block it. On top of existing wireless interference. Either place the wireless router in a central location or add more.

just add another wireless access point in the furthest or 2nd furthest room will do, if you can find wireless router that is cheaper than wirelsss AP, buy another wireless router and use it as wireless AP.

link up the new wireless ap to the main router using the ethernet port in the room. remember to go to the DB to patch up the link between the room and router.

You need to connect the connection to your router. Taken from another post the Main LAN point may look like this

D1 - D6

You need to connect you router the port which reflect you room.

Thank you very much for your reply. Just to double confirm, Currently the wall port in my DB cabinet is connected to a modem(?) > Router. So if I have 3 rooms, I will need 3 extra ethernet cable going from the Router back to the DB cabinet into each port?

What CAT cable would you recommend me to get? I've ordered a cheap cat 6 cable from Lazada once but im unsure if there is anything I should look our for or anything? Or get "branded" cables?

If you are on starhub, you would be issued in ONT (Modem only).

The connection needs to be like this: ONT (Modem) > Router (router needs to be in the db cabinet) > the various ports in the cabinet. If you intent to use 3, then, yes, 3 cables required.

Cable wise, dont really have to be branded. If its not working fine, just replace it. Branded might give slightly better assurance. Do get cat 6a at least.

Am I able to connect a router from the room's ethernet port too?

ONT > Router 1 > Room port > Router 2

Am I able to connect a router from the room's ethernet port too?

ONT > Router 1 > Room port > Router 2

ONT connects to router 1's WAN port (blue)

room port connects to router 2's LAN port (yellow).

you also need to set router2's IP address, if not , it may use the same address as router1. suggest to set at router1's ip address +1 (e.g router 1 is 192.168.1.1, set router 2 to 192.168.1.2)

Good morning,

My residence is an EC at Punggol with LAN points in each room.
Have not got a chance to test them to confirm all working as i only found out about the points after my warranty period. Management just push away saying main con do not entertain such request after warranty.

I have tried out the followings but still fail. May I trouble anyone to point out my setup error.

My ISP is Myrepublic.
Equipment I have are:
1. Asus AC88 router
2. Asus AC56U router(non Aimesh)
3. 3 x Asus Lyra (not Mini also not Trio)
4. Dlink 8 port Gigabyte switch

First setup(all happening in DB box area):
- ONT > Dlink 8 port gigabyte ports > Lan 1 point + Lan 3 point.

This setup, Lan 1 data point in living room with AC88 as main router detecting signal. Lan 3 data point tried setup as Access Point. Plug in any of the Wan ports, encounter no internet/ some IP conflict.

Second setup(all happening in DB box area):
- ONT > AC56 router(set as Access Point) > Lan 1 point + Lan 3

This setup Lan 1 data point connecred to Main Lyra no signal.
Lan 3 wall Lan plug into laptop, showing no internet on laptop.

Current setup for me is using 2 x Lyra with ONT > modem > Lan 1 point(in DB box)
1 Lyra(main) connected to Lan data point 1 in living room, the other Lyra just power switch located in my furthest room. Covers 80% of the house at the moment.

What I hope to achieve is:
- AC 88 in living room
- Each room can have a Lyra with Lan connection when running for better speed. Current speed with 2 Lyras, Living room about 280mbps and other room running about 60mbps with room door close.

OR

All 3 Lyra can be connected to each room Lan point for better speed/ connection.

My preferred method will be first setup with Dlink switch but also open to whichever is easiest setup to achieve the same result I wish for.

May I know how shoud my AC 88 router setup should be in the living room? Router mode or Access Point mode when plug into Living room Lan 1?
Lan 3(MBR) I intend to connect a Lyra in the room Lan 3 data point, do I have to setup 1 x Lyra as Access point too?
I would like to setup/ plugin another Lyra in second bedroom(call it Lan 4) with Lan point connection, does it have to be/ can it be on Acess Point mode too?

I have seperately trying out in different days and many hours had been spent each time but no avail, I am kinda giving up already. Thanks for your advices in advance.

if your 8 port switch is a smart switch, you can configure to make it work. however, based on what you wrote, it is too difficult for you to configure it.

so you should put the switch after router and use it as dumb switch, or just sell it away.

the connection should be

ont > router > lan1, lan2, lan3, lan4 points

Second setup(all happening in DB box area):
- ONT > AC56 router(set as Access Point) > Lan 1 point + Lan 3

won't work, ONT is expecting a router, not access point.

1st of all, any internet traffic that comes into your home from the ONT, YOU should always place a router to protect your home network !!!
This is basic networking knowledge.

Recommended for your home setup would be
ONT -> RT-AC88U (in the DB area, turn off wifi)
RT-AC88u wifi is known to be be problematic for both 2.4 & 5Ghz.

Next upgrade your RT-AC88U to support Aimesh and form a mesh network in your home

ONT --> RT-AC88U
->LYRA TRIO -> all the rooms
-> RT-AC56U (run as AP) in the Living room

This would be the best setup for your EC
