Nicole Seah performed strongly against Goh Chok Tong in GE2011 for one big reason: It was a David against Goliath fight.

The public saw a young woman being pitted against a high profile political figure and sympathized for her. The media also gave much attention to the battle.

Had Nicole Seah faced a generic PAP dude or average PAP team in 2011, she wouldn't even be famous. The fight would not have been close.

Fumbling Heng, being an idiot, decided to go to East Coast personally to defend it against any WP threat.

If Nicole Seah and the average WP team there was facing an average PAP team at East Coast in GE2020, this battle wouldn't even be generating any media attention and PAP would probably win without much effort. Just like how PAP's Cheryl Chan won against Dennis Tan in Fengshan in 2015. Nobody cares about two newbie candidates facing off or two average teams battling it out.

But Fumbling Heng has gone there now and made it a David versus Goliath battle again - precisely the same situation that Nicole Seah excels at.

WP probably knew that Heng was going to East Coast and decided to set up the same GE2011 situation that Nicole excelled in.

Heng has nothing to gain from his "East Coast Plan". So what if he wins East Coast with 55% and Nicole gets into parliament as a NCMP?

It is NOT the job of the PM-in-waiting to play hero and contest vulnerable seats to prevent them from being lost. He should have seen the bigger picture - regardless of whether WP or PAP won East Coast, PAP would form the government and Heng would probably be PM.

Now he has unnecessarily placed himself in a risky position. East Coast is now an all or nothing contest for him. If he loses East Coast, he will never be prime minister. Chan Chun Sing or Tharman would be next in line to be PM.

Winning East Coast narrowly does not make him look good. If he thinks he is proving his bravery by going to East Coast GRC, he is mistaken. Nobody cares about how brave the PM is. It is not a pre-requisite for the next Prime Minister to win difficult territory. Lim Swee Say was not elevated to Prime Minister after defending East Coast GRC in GE2011. Similarly, Sitoh Yih Pin did not become Prime Minister after winning Potong Pasir and Victor Lye is definitely not in the running to be the next PM.

Heng has made Nicole Seah dangerous by making it a David versus Goliath battle again just like in GE2011. Instead of being the hero who went there to save East Coast, he might end up as the idiot who made it a competitive fight.

It doesn't look like he volunteered for it.

It is beyond his control. Don’t laugh at him. The after effect of the stroke was cleared in his last speeches. There is mental block and he would not be able to think fast n have a clear mind. I had seen stroke patient before and the side effect is suffering. HSK should work at backend, have more time to rest and not put at the forefront to fight a war.
