Between AX88U and AX86U, AX88U wins more aspects (more ports and higher 2.4GHz rating) but lose on the 2.5Gbps port.

just to add on..
AX86 has faster ram(1866Mbps) and USB3.2
AX88 ram speed(1600Mbps), USB3.1

but all those specs not really critical to users. go for the best design ;)

GT-AXE11000.... so many

If I purchase the AX86U from China. Do I need to flash the SG or US ROM to the unit before I can use this with Singtel network? Or original ROM will work fine. TIA

Not sure abt Singtel, but I didn’t have to flash any ROMs to work with MR. Just that your initial settings will be CN specific. CN region and Chinese menus

AX56 is more than enough for daily use. 160mhz useful?

I agree that AX56U is good for most use cases.

Still I think 160MHz is useful. Cheap Intel AX200 based wireless cards for laptop and desktop support 160MHz channel bandwidth.

So far all the WiFi 6 clients are 2*2, so AX58U is kind of enough now. But future device may be 3*3 or 4*4. In that case, AX82U/AX86U are useful.

Actually before the news of AX86U, I was looking at AX58U myself. But now I want to wait for the year end sales to see if AX82U or AX86U can drop to a good price. I have the Huawei AX3 Pro as an AP to complement my aging WRT1900AC (6 year +) main router for now. I intend to replace the WRT-1900AC with a better router.

Better to buy in Sg as the router came with 3 years local warranty. In case it spoit just need to bring the receipt with the router to do a one to one exchange.

I think AX86U is good enough and can support 2Gbps internet speed. It still have AI-Protection Pro.

hmm.. There is no ISP plan that can support this? All the 2Gbps plans are not pure 2Gbps. Its either 1+1 or aggregated total. Besides, the 500Mbps plans would be more than sufficient for most.

Hard to max it out unless all you devices are wired up and torrenting at the same time.

Impossible unless my house got more than 20 people active downloading. :s13:
my NAS at one period was torrenting 24/7 but that since stopped.

In reality the 2.5Gbps port for the AX86U is kind of useless for the current 2Gbps plan in Singapore (aggregated 2Gbps with each port up to 1Gbps, or just plain 1Gbps+1Gbps).

But compared to AX82U, the faster speed CPU in AX86U/AX88U/AX11000 can be very useful for certain application, like OpenVPN client or OpenVPN server.

Not using torrent myself so yes I agree that 1Gbps (or even 500Mbps) Internet is good enough for most of the people.

On the other hand, a good wireless router may still be useful for internal home network use case, that is regardless of the internet plan one is using. One can still benefit from faster file transfer within local network, especially if no Ethernet cabling at home. WiFi 6 has made it possible to reach 1Gbps using wireless, at least for close range.

Quite hard to hit. It deoends source and dest read and write. I copied thru and fro my qnap NAS. Max i get 200Mb plus minus.

Does AX86U support AES hardware acceleration as AC86U?

Yes. And that is one of the main advantage of AX86U (as well as AX88U) compared to AX82U.

Ref:
https://www.snbforums.com/threads/checking-for-aes-ni-use-in-openvpn-on-rt-ax88u.62894/

From RMerlin
OpenSSL compiled for this router's CPU will make use of AES operands, speeding up AES performance for anything that uses OpenSSL (including OpenVPN).

The hardware crypto engine is a separate thing from the AES CPU operands. That engine is only used by IPSEC. OpenSSL/OpenVPN cannot use it to increase performance, because the context switch between the kernel driver and the user software results in a drop in performance.

Haha, upgrade your NAS then.

Or copy from computer to computer.

Or just the "feel good" thingy by using SpeedTest or iperf3. :D

Thanks for explaining, just received mine last weekend, :)
