Everytime I watch that scene, I ask why US don't want to use a big bullet proof large shield when they step out of that boat? First 3 ppl hold the shield for the group.
And why they don't want land at night when visibility is poor...
Actually in reality the Germans are not directly infront of the ramp powered launch (RPL).
all the MGs in defensive positions were emplaced in an arc of fire so that they have a wider coverage and the landing soldiers would be short from an angle than from the front.
This also gave the germans an advantage so they can't be shot from the front.
Any shield would not be effective.
Landing at night I think might not be effective and more disorienting. They were already disoriented in daytime. Nighttime worse i think.
