Why did the US even bother to fight another continent's war?
Because japan bombed pearl harbor destroying most of US pacific fleet. A few days after pearl harbor Germany declared war on the usa.
Why did the US even bother to fight another continent's war?
They did naval bombardment prior to the beach landing, but they did not plan adequately..![]()
any more war movies worth rewatching?

Learning history from Hollywood movies and don't pay attention to the actual events can easily make you misunderstood what really happened.
The Germans during ww2 were much more frightened of the Soviets than the Americans. The fact is Germany sent their best Wermacht to the Eastern front against the Slavics who kept coming like zombies. The soviet leadership was total sh/t. Soldiers were poorly equipped, poorly trained but they kept coming in huge numbers. They die in the millions, the number of soviet military deaths is almost ten times the casualties of us + Germany. To attempt breaking the soviets spirit, for every German soldier killed, the German would kill 50 soviet pow or civilians. Doesn't work as the soviets don't give a ******* ****. The hungry soviets, were known to cook the German pow to eat, the Germans were even more afraid. Bloody and crazy like hell.
Matter of fact, the German army sent to fight the Americans at Normandy were mostly German's reserve units. So some historians question the success of the battle. Majority of the German best military units were having showdown with the soviets. When the soviets were fighting against Germany, the German army were at the prime with strong morale, well trained and well equipped. When the Americans were fighting, the Germans were already starting to lose. It was the soviets who made the first German Marshal to surrender and locked up alot of the German's resources and military in the eastern front. If Hitler did not underestimate the soviets and declared war against them, things could be very different.
One of the crazy battle for the Americans should be the battle of Okinawa where they meet the relentless Japanese troops. Iirc USA had 500k versus japs 100k. 90 over percent of the japs died, they fought all the way.
No German troops landed on America soil Iirc. Casualties at home is at the minimal. All fights were on foreign soil. This is very witty. Even today, USA has a approach to try shifting main battleground to other countries.![]()
I remembered there are several movies made by the pommies about the Lancaster dam buster and the mosquito planes. In the latter film, they intentionally destroyed one of the vintage plane tooThe best ww2 movies were made in the 60s and 70s.

What stopped the Germans from conquering Soviets is the relentless cold weather. And offcourse the mass bodies the Soviet throws at the Germans to drag the battle on.

To be fair some of the German army choices at that time ish bo bian one. Not that they no want to deploy elite troops but most either already up lorry and\or still tie up in the eastern front. Cum Hitler ish the one who ish kiasee and also an idiot never follow his military generals best advise and choose to horde the elite tanks for himself than to deploy to western front that why the general in-charge also ish llst.![]()
This beach landing probably won’t even happen if German took out the retreating ally forces at Dunkirk
If German never fell for the fake army trick and fortified the wrong coast the beach landing might not be so successful
Really is everything must swee swee happen to result in this ally victory
That's quite a simplified version of events.
In reality, the Germans had a clear idea that an attack may come from Normandy. The idea behind their defense was to use the seawall as a holding mechanism, while panzer was mobilised from beyond Allies bombardment range.
