[NAS] Synology NAS owner club!

Seems like a reasonable choice for home user who want simple backup and light collaboration.

Guys, need your recommendations:

I have 2 different locations:

- Location A has user A. NAS is also located in Location A.
- Location B has user B. No NAS.

Users A and B would like to share files. Files would be preferrable hosted in the NAS.
User B at Location B is quite IT challenged - prefers that they just open a window (or app) to immediately see they synced/shared files.

Is there a Synology application that I can use for this to work? I was looking at Synology Drive but it needs NAS on both locations (from what I understand).

no btrfs risky. you wont know if files get corrupted when hard disk starts to die

May I know why can't both users use DS File app on my mobile phone to access the NAS? What does this VPN actually helps in this case? I do have VPN setup on my NAS as I did this following a YouTube video years back but till date I have always been asking myself why and I have been accessing my NAS using DS File app from outside my network. If I were using my laptop outside, I use the static name.synology.me to access. Will be good to have some advice from guru here. Thanks.

Never used a Synology NAS before but cant we see the HDD health in the admin page?

Hi, looking to upgrade my 1819+ to a larger synology nas with more bays but don't want to go the expansion bay route.

is 2419+ recommended for 12 bays?

Does anyone have any recommendations for UPS-es for these 2 models as well?

I just got "Google Shared Drive" with unlimited storage yesterday for < SGD$2 for me to dump non confidential data on it.

Best part is movies we uploaded to it, Google will encode it with various resolution and we can watch it like how we watch on YouTube.

Best part is movies we uploaded to it, Google will encode it with various resolution and we can watch it like how we watch on YouTube.

wouldn't it be the same as Synology (Plex)? Thats the whole idea of hardware transcoding.

It’s a company private cloud, so there is a lot of confidential stuff on it. Don’t feel very safe with those public cloud.

Now about 6 x10tb, probably expand about more to max

I used to use expansion bay. I swear against it. Relies too much on the main unit and is actually slower. Makes booting also slow.

Your thoughts on getting a separate unit is much more palatable

Already $0. You already spent on the device so u can just use it.

How's the remote access speed for Synology Drive?

It was ok for me. Doing "Sync" right now and with currently just less than 5MB worth of assorted files (docs, spreadsheets and jpegs). Location B has terrible internet speed (3rd world country). The moment both server and client linked together, it only took around 3-5 seconds for the files to be synced - this is with remote session and video call on-going at the same time. So I imagine syncing would be a lot faster without the other sessions.
