my personal experience also; books abit hard to read from pg1-500 cuz no context and pace follow author

but after buying courses from masters in ren min bi we do dingding video class can ask questions on the spot and teacher clear problems n questions

even with JY course we have 8 session 2.5 hours q&a for all questions then is recorded into video and archived

eg i bought qimendunjia mastery comes with basic advanced master level video materials
But theres a bonus section with face to face q&a and further explanations those i dont give out to people one

If purely regard as hobby, just follow the flow, learn as you go, buy books when necessary. Ownself happy can le. Ocassionally help to decode charts when available, share analysis methods.

My point is if you attend the right course, you no need to learn thing from any books but the books serve as reference to reinforce your learning and differentiate what is right and what is wrong.

I have books which teach something against my learning, which is fine for me. I am learning what others are saying and understand their arguments. But I will stand by what I have learned from my masters.

When you have something you remember during self learning and want to refer. Video quite difficult, but book easier to refer and easier to go into brains. Imo.
