Amy Khor on smoking at playgrounds and buffer areas

Smoking is prohibited in all publicly accessible playgrounds and adjacent amenities, such as chairs, benches and sidewalks. These are buffer areas to protect users and their caregivers from second-hand tobacco smoke. Feedback or complaints on smoking related to such facilities are "very low" and those related to the buffer area are "even smaller", said Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment Amy Khor. Replying to Parliamentary questions on Friday (Feb 18), she said the community and relevant agencies can adopt "localised solutions" to further clarify boundaries, such as putting up more signs to demarcate prohibited areas.

1. How easy is it to raise concern?
2. Raise to NParks, NParks say NEA. Raise to HDB, say is NEA. raise to NEA, NEA say no evidence.
3. Playground usually are kids playing. Does kids know how to raise an issue and do they actually know how dangerous it is to breathe in second hand smoke?
4. The issue is not about no or less complaints, is the dangers of breathing in second hand smoke.

Come to Bedok Town Centre and see for yourself loh. It is like open season smoking zone for every Tom, Dick and Harry.

The shopkeepers smoke under the block when it is illegal. Smokers smoke within 5 metres of the covered area etc. Zero enforcement.
