Am into my first time job as a contract staff. My employer intends to convert me to perm staff very soon.

Before signing any offer to convert as perm staff, is it possible to negotiate with HR for a higher salary? Not sure whether there are any increment but would like my employer to match the current market rate as an IT support staff.

If employer increased my increment by abit, are there any disadvantages to accept the offer first and use the incremented salary to look for other better opportunities?

You already mention yourself you are a contractor.
Get the perm first then look for new job.
Pay how much depends on HR.
Your Boss can help me push a certain amount but in the end HR will low blow you as low blow is part of their KPI.

HR will likely decline, citing that perm staff gotch moar benefits than contract staff and these benefits are your increment

I did ask for higher pay n perm position last time. Y? Because when the perm staff left I found he was paid way higher doing the same thing. So I asked for higher pay n perm position or I resign leaving zero staff to do the work.

for the same role, contract staff are usually paid higher than perm. So it is already good that they maintain the pay.. but u can also try asking politely..

No harm asking HR, not like they will take back their offer

very seldom
becos they will extend the full benefits + bonus package as per what a full time employee is getting
which is much better than your contact employment

My company's contract n perm staff get almost the same entitlement.

the difference is only contract staff got no variable bonus after Financial Year.

yes i always try to increase the pay of my contract staff when i convert them to perm.
HR will usually hv a cap on the increase.
contract staff never ask, no chance.
edit: however, newly converted staff will not have increment for next year due to newly negotiated pay at conversion

Usually this case, either maintain or lower basic wor. Because they sell their benefits are better
