Thailand's Kra Isthmus Canal - will it be a reality?

The canal would take an estimated ten years to complete at a cost of US$28 billion.

Thailand would benefit from toll collection, port fees and a range of developments surrounding the canal.
If the Kra Canal is built, it will cut the journey between the Indian Ocean and South China Sea by up to 1,200 km

Shipping and logistics companies would definitely welcome the lowered costs of moving goods between East Asia and Europe. A shorter trip without going through the Straits of Malacca would also reduce the risk of running into pirates.

On 15 May 2015, a memorandum of understanding was signed by the China-Thailand Kra Infrastructure Investment and Development company (中泰克拉基础设施投资开发有限公司) in Guangzhou to advance the Kra canal project. On 19 May 2015 the Thai government denied reports that an agreement had been signed with China to construct the canal.

This is why Singapore should invest in the Kra Canal. If it would cause Singapore to lose it's geographical advantage then the next best thing to do is to earn a cut from it's operations. But like all investments there is a hidden price to pay. Those who want Sinkipoo to fail should invest in the Kra Canal.

Given the current Thai's political climate and economic uncertainty, with military junta intervene, this Kra Canal is juz a pipe dreams

haha thailand build this kind of infrastructure is impossible unless the military can pocket a lot of money from it.
Estimated cost $28b, actual construction $60b, with estimated corruption money $120b.. Thailand got so much money to cough up meh? They dare to take loan from west taiwan? If u take the loan, the canal one day will belong to west Taiwan...

Hear till sian already.

Save 1,200km is just 2 sailing days, queue up for canal already takes days liao.

Economically even free transit also doesn’t make sense, not to mention the other problems.
