O.K., you got me there. I admit my electric bill a bit high. Mostly on the bedroom A/C only, and even that one, at night only. $200 plus a month. If turn on daytime, in living room, must be “Heat Wave” going on. Then, I will turn on living room. Set to 29 or 30. Not much increase over $200.
change to a new system. You will save in the long run. With your $200 plus, probably might drop to 120-140. Then multiply by estimated lifespan of new system. 6-7 years is average. You should save even with installation of new system.

Actually, I do not need much A/C. I am O.K. with or without A/C. On really hot days, or Heat Wave, I set at 29 C or 30 C can already. It is my family members that need A/C. But I will keep in mind, your good advice. Who knows, electric rates may just keep going up.

I guess I come from the days of box-style air-conditioner. Those old fashioned A/C would really eat up a lot of electricity. So, $200 plus a month looks economical compared to those Power Guzzlers.

My compressor just broke down after 6 years. called Daikin and guess what, appointment for repair is 14 days later ! Nobody can tahan 2 weeks without aircon one.
One time charge is $129 (price increased 50%) not inclusive of component replacements.

Their thermistor also always spoil. The last time they came to replace my broken thermistor took total 3 months. Their aircon blower motor also not as strong nowadays, you find your aircon need more maintainence as the blower chokes easily. My greatest regrets in my renovation works is choosing Daikin. AVOID DAIKIN AT ALL COSTS.
Sometime Just purchase a new one is better than repairing it

6 years sounds ok. No point repairing anyway. My sister Midea unit still strong after 6 years.

I think last time can lower until 16. Seems like this is an issue with all the Aircon as they age. U need to set a lower temperature to get the same coldness.

I think is more on refrigerant, to me many of the systems are under charge as they only use pressure to charge which is highly not accurate

Same thing with fridges. Mum complain the bill keep going up due to tariff increase sometime back. The fridge was like 15 years old. Told her my place a/c change already electric bill drop quite a bit.

She changed to a new fridge and the consumption drop by nearly 40%. Also told her to stop using the electric airpot that keeps water warm whole day. Nobody constantly using it. Use electric kettle better.

her old fridge is non inverter and fridge is 24/7 thus high electric bill. But non inverter fridge can last very very long ... almost 30yrs (my mum's). but bill is crazy high... I calculated ... $200 more per year vs Inverter fridge

Also heard the same too, some Midea parts are not readily available and need to wait for Midea to shipped from China to SG. Best repairability is Mitsubishi Electric and easy to dismantle for servicing too.
every heard of TAOBAO?

Yeah. Non inverter. Use new tech better but they dont last as long.

But save variable costs in the long run due to increasing electric tariffs

Same... Old fridge over 20 years....
But too small (3 door) and energy consuming. Changes For The Better.

You're absolutely right. My inverter fridge broke down just 3 days after warranty expired. 🤬
