Think depends on what one is looking for more in a job bah. If need the flexibility cause of family commitments and such, then its one of the better option while still making a decent earning.

But then many are psycho into believing they need the cpf, especially for housing and such, thus if so its not so good for them then. Especially when they cannot save much to contribute themselves.

Usually those older who have much settled don't need to touch the cpf as much can lean more towards such. Those younger maybe not so, if want to build up the cpf pool.

But really, if serious about it and discipline enough, think cpf is not much issue also. Just own self make the effort to contribute.

Impression if not really educated and/or sit in high position taking high pay. Then this one earning not that much different from the typical office workers slogging it out exchanging time for money. Difference is have more flexibility in managing the time to do work, even if need to put in same amount of time as office workers.

But if work full time and discipline enough, climb up to higher tiers. The benefits and incentives are better, thus think can make more in lesser time compare to the average workers bah, if put in same amount of time.
Need discipline to contribute to CPF. Problem with a lot of young drivers is that they want to experience life. Wait until they have family then they realised they need to save for raining days.

MERIT - Got a job, got cash to feed family.

got office jobs to work in .. who wants to be phv driver leh.
Depends, office jobs generally lacks the flexibility. PHV can take break from 10am to 5pm to fetch kids home and coach kids on their schoolwork. Drive from 6am to 10am, go back take a break then take care of kids, after that drive from 5pm to 10pm.

But not many are that disciplined.

If work in office jobs, probably home at 7pm, by then kids are getting ready to sleep after playing for the whole day.

Best is you join the phv driver Facebook groups to have first-hand opinions from drivers themselves

Grab, ryde, tada

Then you'll know
Yup, compare all the 4 platforms, they have different commission rate, and different incentive schemes. There isn’t a one size fit all, really depends on your driving habits to determine which platform most suits you.

merits of being one . anyone can advise?
You need to assess your situation, whether the flexibility is what you need at this moment. And whether you have the discipline to save and to self contribute to CPF. A lot of young people lack the discipline after the initial enthusiasm wears off.

i know a few Phd kias also do PHV and they seem heypi
Not expert but think many might have experienced or heard before, impression local no matter what education what position, once reach certain age if get the boot, its quite hard to get back same, if not a decent job one.

There are alot of discriminations out there for locals. So can on fall back to self employed and such. And among the few options out there, phv still can offer quite a decent income if work long hours and committed. Its not for everyone, need to be commited to earn that kind of income.

Licence wise, get TDVL. Can use for both taxi and phv.

Suggest try out a few mths first. Usu taxi require more brain cos need to know the maps during street hail, there is no GPS to guide you.

Phv, just off brain, on app, step pedal, go.

Yes, you take yourself out of the regular workforce to give the rest more career opportunities. You are helping rental companies to monetise their assets; you provide transportation services for foreigners most of the time which serves to decongest our public transport system. Go for it!

U work harder, you earn more. of course theres an element of luck. You dont need to suck up to bosses and use underhand tactics to earn more.
Thats why moi considering giving up white collar job to be PHV.
Moi personality is such that I want to be rewarded for efforts. Doesnt happen in workplace through hard word; need to brag, suck up etc.

But the big earners are those who work when supposed to spend time with family!!!

i m an ex taxi driver for 2 years.

my advise is,

dont join unless u really 走投无路

if u join, please think of a way to get out of it asap.
WHY?
If you work hard u will be rewarded. That doesnt happen in the workplace.
