Have been hearing boomers saying they are 中国人 these days

And they listen to 958fm. Not sure if there's a link...

I can forsee the usual EDMWers not happy with this statement and going to fight it out in the thread
There's nothing to fight over.

Premier Deng Xiaoping and PM Lee Kuan Yew settled that debate in 1978 - you are not family.

Ironically these very same boomers who witnessed Premier Deng's visit and read the local news coverage, are so enamored with China, they forget who they are as Singaporeans.

What talking her? Not overseas Chinese then is amdk? African?

Chinese is Chinese, can say it better, we are different in terms of habits though we are related by blood and race

she is linking race to nationality, Chinese does not mean ppl from China. Think they have problem differentiating like the case of race vs religion in honeyma’s case
Hokkiens teochews Cantonese

We are leading our own lives, not overseas of anyone. Nobody now is crazy over such things except the bare minority.

If still stuck in the past and Wanted to trace back 3000 years, are you going to go back to support independence of fujian and guangdong, no rite? what happen there had no longer anything to do with you now. Be pragmatic and realistic.

How interesting. India’s media always report Indian Singaporeans’ achievements as “Indian origin”. Our MPs should apply same standard then?

Anyway, regardless of what she or we say, anywhere we go, people are going to judge and treat people first according to their skin color, that’s human nature.

As much as I don’t like her, I’m going to stand with her on this. I am a sinkie Chinese and has absolute nothing to do with that glass hearted country. Don’t brand all Chinese like we are part of your nonsense motherland crap.

On my IC, I am a Chinese. But my non-Chinese grandmother has a British passport and my grandpa was an orphan adopted by a Chinese Singaporean. He also changed his race and surname to his new family. I told my mixed parents that by right they are not Chinese, given the information on their parent's birth cert. They told me since they "feel" Chinese, they declare themselves as Chinese to ICA.

Nowadays, information on the Internet is developed. When analyzing this information, how should Chinese people identify information that will affect the cohesion of Chinese people? Shen Ying, Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of National Development and Foreign Affairs, pointed out that Chinese people must always remember that national identity and cultural identity are two different things.

Shen Ying, Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of National Development and Foreign Affairs, mentioned in an interview with "Budget Point" that Chinese people get a lot of information from mobile phones or the Internet every day, but Chinese people always remember that national identity and cultural identity are two different things. .

She explained using the example of Chinese people in our country: "We are both Singapore citizens and Singaporean Chinese, but we are not overseas Chinese."

Shen Ying hopes that the Chinese people will think about whether this information is based on cultural identity or other identities. She hopes to win over readers to support a certain position. Shen Ying also needs to think deeply about whether this position is consistent with our country as a diverse country. fundamental interests of the racial state.

In addition, for information that uses more sensational or more critical words to attract attention, Shen Ying calls on Chinese people to think deeply about whether the author wants to arouse stronger emotions in readers, and whether there are other intentions behind it.

"Above all, consider whether this information is in the interest of our country as a multiracial society."

the problem is the terms are poorly translated from Chinese (中文)(another confusing term, Chinese got 3 meanings, the language, ethnic and nationality)

overseas Chinese = 华侨 = overseas PRC

华裔 = descendents of 华侨 (localised and non-PRC)

so which one are we? r u PRC? :s13:
