Well you know that China has imposed rules so draconian that Google and Facebook are till now still not there?

Or when PSA got into China to invest, build and manage ports, they had to adhere to local laws and take only minority stakes because ports are infrastructure critical to security?

Or the Great Firewall of China keeps out so many websites it does not want its citizens to access?

Or that there are quotas and strict censorship requirements on foreign films being screened there?

Or that there are days Tesla cars can't be on certain roads?

He who lives in a glass house should not throw rocks.
Lol.

Well Mr neutral @kelhot2001 we didn't hear you make a noise when China banned Teslas or iphones for govt officials. US regulations and laws are just behind the curve here and there's not enough fawning over. Bye bye BYD. Comes with the off-chance what Biden really means is Chinese EV's are a threat to US auto workers and their unions. :s13:

insta is not as important to facebook as facebook. And different crowd la insta and tiktok. Tiktok is a lot more important than insta to current gen
I find more siao lang users and content on TikTok than other social media. :ROFLMAO: Uninstalling that silly useless app is the best for my phone and I see my IQ regaining back to normal healthy level.

According to fellow edmwers this is not a ban. US own country own rule for a foreign company to sell Tik Tok and if the company never comply will have consequences.

Just like China did not ban foreign apps like Facebook, X, Instagram, youtube etc.

I dun think that was really the issue. The issue was they were adamant on banning TT in the 1st place, the entire hearing was literally much a show to enable proceeding to this ban voting.

Even if he kneel down and say sorry also not gonna change the their idea that all chinese = sleeper spy for China and must be eliminated from their system.
It still matters.

If chew had been more humble, maybe the bill will take longer to pass or more of the representatives would vote for TikTok to stay, leading to more discussions.

Now it's a one sided victory. Not much hope for bytedance at the moment except to divest.

Good ban, 2/3 majority voted yes to push through the bill successfully!
Not sure what is the point of the bill.

Supposedly the entity is sold to a USA Investor, then continue to operate.... Suddenly all the social harm disappeared?
