will be going for my virgin trip to beijing in 2 weeks time and had linked my alipay and wechat pay with trust and youtrip card with changipay as backup

just wanna ask if the convenience stores over there like 7-11 accept cash payments as would like to get smaller notes else can help to advise where are the places we spend to get smaller denomination notes

take the beijing mrt to your hotel, buy from the mrt ticketing machine, you will get the small denominations change and most of the time the notes are of better conditions than what you would get from small vendors. some of these vendors are waiting for tourists to unload their horrible condition giamchai notes to you. lol.

agree that this is the best way forward for both tourists and the merchants.

main issues for tourists (esp the angmohs) is privacy and fear factors about installing prc apps.
main issue for merchants is the additional overheads to absorb for accepting the overseas card directly.
main challenge for the prc govt is to remove from their various systems (at city, town and business entity levels) of the requirements for china-only phone no. and china-id only)

Maybe we are asking too much, do for example other countries systems accepts other country phone number ?
I think quite a number of things will be solved when they start to implement digital yuan. ( where they will have full control of the foreign exchange with the tracking that comes with it).

frauds can happen at different layers : phone, app or the card/pos levels. i use youtrip debit card to minimize this risk. the card only got some money when i travel overseas, there is no direct link to any of my credit cards or bank accounts, and i always lock the card when back in hotel room. lol.

Anybody got experience with Panda Remit? Can directly top up into your own alipay via QR?

Edit: Registered and tried to add my Alipay, cannot. Must be China citizen / ID then can use the 闪速收款QR. Haiz, thought found another way to do so.

I will be surprised if you found a way to go around the restrictions.

Recently, I installed AliPay and added my YouTrip card. But I can't used it to pay at 7-11 or Sheng Siong. Any idea why? I didn't verify my account and got the message that I can only pay a max of RMB15,000.

If you are talking about using it in Singapore, up till now , Only China National using their ID for verification can use it, many have tried them already and a pop up notice will give the above message.

Read the FAQ in the apps it is stated there.

There are some in this thread who have not tried and yet claimed that it can be done, for me I only take note of those who have tried it personally.

Of course going forward, things may change, like now apparently new rules that allowed foreigner who does not verified their account can use it for a certain limit in CHINA.

China is trying to look for solution to make it easy for foreigners /tourists to have a better experience and yet have control of foreign exchange. ( could happened when they "deploy" Digital Yuan ? )

must top up via Mainland Bank account.
The way to do it is:
First get a China mobile number(CM link China number also can).
Next open a bank account in China with your Singapore Passport.(some local bank can let you do that).
The rest is link your China bank card to WeChat or Alipay.

Side track, any specific bank and account(s) that allows SWIFT transfer from overseas to mainland bank account?

You mean from banks in Singapore to mainland bank account, if that is your question, most local banks can do it
but they will ask you lots of questions.. why do you need to TT and what is the purpose etc etc.

Your recipient on China side will also have to answer a number of questions too. The recipient will received the amount in foreign currency, than he or she needs to bring his ID & bank card and they will fix the exchange rate for the conversion. The rate cannot be "lock" or determine when you are doing the TT.

In the past, it only took about a few hours before the recipient received and can withdrawal out of the account, but since last year this can take up to weeks and banks will give you all sort of excuse for the delay.

This was my personal experience for 2/3 tier cities not sure about the big city like Beijing / Shanghai/GZ & SZ.

As above reply, most banks provide the service. The police advise against using third-party remittance services but stopped short of providing a list of banks that provide this service.

SWIFT transfer should be available from all major local banks.

If you need to transfer money to a mainland China bank account held by a Chinese citizen, then POSB provides fast remittance service. You need to have the account information of the recipient (address, Chinese ID card number, mobile phone number). The other side will receive money after one working day.

ICBC Singapore has similar services called "RMB Fixed-rate Remittance" -- the recipient must be a Chinese citizen.

Context is, as I have a China bank account but can't seem to transfer money from SG to CN. It got rejected and bounced back to my SG account.
Basically trying to transfer from DBS (no fees) to CN account.

And was told that I will require an account that allows external transfers (多币种综合账户) into to CN as compared to my current account which I believe is a local only acount as shared by CN's CS.
Thus, my enquiry on which bank or account specifically allows.
As we all know, its really cumbersome and restrictive to get money into CN, just to pay for things online mainly etc. or usage in China whenever I go over.

As above reply, most banks provide the service. The police advise against using third-party remittance services but stopped short of providing a list of banks that provide this service
Nope, not looking at remittance. And definitely not interested in 3rd party since its illegal which literally is throwing money away if its seized etc. by SG & CN authorities.

This was my expectations as well until CN CS shared that there's accounts that is for local internal CN usage, and foreign fund accceptance accounts.
But the only issue is, I am of course a non citizen and thus, facing issues trying to transfer funds over to my own CN account.

I think this website are not updated. When my wife did the transfer in Jan this year, definitely not one working day. Took weeks before they allow it to be withdrawn. ( this was in 2/3 tier city).

Before Covid, the transfer is reflected a few hours later and be withdrawal immediately. ie if you did the transfer at 10 am by 2 pm the same day recipient can withdraw them.
