I have come to realise there are two groups of people when it comes to food 1) the "eat to live" and 2) live to eat.

I don't know if it is inborn or what but some people eat just to fill their stomach and they are not fussy about food at all. The other group has extremely sensitive taste buds whose sole enjoyment is to eat (ok, I am exaggerating here). They often can cook quite well.

So for the second group, it is harder for them to change their diet and eat food that is on the bland side although healthier food can also be tasty if you know how to do it.

Side track, anyone here has family members or friends who don't drink water at all? Two years ago, I was shocked to discover two of my family members don't drink water at all. I wonder how they even stay alive. Getting them to change this habit is a herculean task!
Haha when I was younger I knew someone only drinks coke and she's skinny.

As for "live to eat" people, think there is yet a subset who understand about desensitisation to flavours and the excess use of salt and other flavourings. Maybe those who cook will have higher chance of training their taste buds to be more sensitive so no need so much salt and such.

Blood sugar was at 11.1 just an hour before the cataract surgery on 20th March due to the CNY goodies plus never took Metformin then (it was at 9 in last aug)

Metformin is taken since 13th March (11.9) ,guai guai took it twice everyday, it dropped 0.8 till 11.1 on 20th March

What I have eaten during my 3 weeks of hospitalization leave;
-jiak 3 pcs of bananas plus 1 whole dragon fruit daily because I was then obsessed with daily fibre intake
-jiak caipng with the ikan bilis and peanuts consecutive for few days (no zhup)
-jiak caipng with other dishes twice everyday (no zhup)
-1x potato chips & 1x spicy tortilla chips
-2x 300ml of 100+ zero
-1x saizeriya BBQ pizza 2 slices
-1x encik tan chicken cutlet curry rice
-1x Carl's Jr fried onion rings
-2x mcdonalds fillet o'fish
-1x unagi rice
-1x BK garlic chicken sandwich
-3x zichar
-3x 80g packs of red spicy tapioca
-1x 油条and 2x butterfly
-black jelly and Tao Huey ,both total at 28g of sugar
-1x YTF curry and 1x YTF with sweet sauce
-1x economic fried black sweet noodle
-2x economic nasi lemak with fried food
-2x ice cream cone type
-1x 老王 sesame chicken with 1.5 bowl rice
-drank 2l of plain water daily

These 7 days after HL ended,
-jiak dimsum buffet ,mostly fried
-1x some sushi rice rolls at sushi express
-1x mixue tall icecream cone
-1x fish & chips with coleslaw
-toriQ 2pcs chicken balls and 2pcs kandang
-1x 蒙古鸡丁饭
-OCK sardine puff & pohpiah
-1x 老王 sesame chicken with 1.5 bowl rice
-1x chicken cutlet fried rice
-2.5 cans of 100+ zero
-half packet spicy belinjo chips
-ate half a large banana just today
-ate whole pack of wasabi nuts
-drink 1.5l of water daily (which should be enough since the colour of my urine is healthy), pangsai also healthy (thick/with cracks)

Felt very bad twice when peeing recently, machiam I would collapse anytime so I sat on the stool for awhile before I left the bathroom

Have just seen the doc earlier on and my blood sugar reading is a freaking 18.3 despite I am taking Metformin and statins everyday
Heart beat at 137 (as of now 100) with normal BP, even did ECG and was told to go for blood test tmr
Doc said I'll uplorry within the next 3 years if I carry on with my current diet
And advised me to go diabetic center to have my legs screened

Since the op on 20th March till today, my blood sugar surged for another 7.2 points!!!!!

My questions, do 100+ zero, white rice and the mentioned fruits caused such a high spike within a month? And how many points can the blood sugar drop with OMAD? Don't want to poke my finger every night unless really no choice since have to keep track

If I never jiak yok, the reading would have been unimaginable sky high

Purpose of this thread is to motivate myself to keep my health on track
I missed my 7.3 reading a year ago and my mood was down but now, I was so shock

If I never online here either means I tio banned or my wife becomes a widow

Expecting scoldings, bashing, more than 30 pages and a lot of shockening reactions from NAO

Height 180
Weight 90

For myself,

@1982-1994 I hv that thalassaemia whatever trait too .. but it hasn’t affected my life until this few years all of sudden ..

I checked w doc he said this s genetic trait .. eating iron rich things is not gg to help change e genes 🧬.. just eat n live healthily as usual

My side effect possibly related to this thalassamia thg is possibly u d feel more tired easily n faster than other humans who don’t hv this

and skin specialist thinks that my finger tips skin renews less speedy than usual .. it could be reason of why my finger tips r v thin and break n bleed very easily
You and me should be same same.

My endo doc prescribed to me years of iron supplement hoping to raise my haemogoblin but it didn't help. So he took the iron supplement out. If my haemogoblin drop below 8, time to go for blood transfusion.

I also feel tired more easily, my bone mass and density are weak, I suffered 6 broken bones in the past 5 years, 2 kneecaps, 1 elbow, several ribs at one go, left and right foot. The 2 kneecaps and 1 elbow went for titanium implant to gain back my mobility.

I hope your company doc will refer you to a specialist coz most GP can't handle complex conditions.

If you are seeing doc in polyclinic, then likely will be referred to the Diabetes & Metabolic Centre (DMC) of SGH. You have a higher chance to get a more 'holistic' advice from the specialists there (incl of referral to dietician).

I have 2 sets of glucometer, 1 at home, 1 at office.
Before breakfast I took the reading at home, then when in office 2hr after breakfast I take reading again, just to check the breakfast cause how much spike? So far tested chee cheong fun (no sugar, no sweet sauce, just ma-you and light sauce) can spike about 3pts while 2x ½ boiled egg only spike <1pt. Since then I'm eating this for breakfast.
Initially the glucometer that I used in office will read out loud the reading, then all my colleagues knows 😄 but anyways they knows I hv diabetes, then I go google to find out how to turn off the speech :o

Enjoy every single day of your life. Who knows when is you last day on earth.
Two things;
1. Enjoy your life to the fullest, eat what you like, do what you want to do equals shorter life or
2. Eat in moderation/diet, restriction on food and sacrifice a little bit equals longer life.
Your choice!

Irresponsible reckless advice !!! If you are BBFA, sure, you die your problem. TS has a wife and ab elderly mother, plus he is the ONLY child, so the responsibility of care-giving is solely on him loh.
