I upgraded from European car to Japanese car. The reliability of European cars simply suck and during one accident while driving my European car, where I was hit from the back, the chassis was too hard and didn't absorb any of the impact and the impact transferred to me, my body lunched forward and sprained my thumb as i instinctively tried to hold on to the steering but not managed to.
you are sitting too near the steering wheel. try to push the seat as far back as possible so that your head is close to the b pillar
It's arguable hard or soft chassis is better. Softer chassis absorb the impact and less impact to the passengers. The counter argument is that if the impact is too hard, the crumpling crushes the passengers. If you are hit by such huge impact, conti cars, Japanese cars both will crumple and have the passengers crush by the impact regardless. Hard chassis will have less chance of crumpling, but like my case, my car sees little dents after the impact but I ended up with months of physiotherapy...
conti cars use thicker sheet metal for their chassis and suspension. that's why the ride is quieter, fuel economy is worse and parts fail faster compared to jap cars
If you want to talk about harder or softer chassis, best is not to get into accident by driving safe and slow.
choose hard chassis for safety. push seat all the way back & all the way down, head support adjust height for whip lash. steering wheel all the way down. if you are belted up, you will be safe in accidents
Sold away my conti before end of year two because simply too many issues... Air con sensor spoilt, stop start feature spoilt, windows rubber seal harden and give rise to squeaking sound when driving then eventually the whole car cannot start and it's not because of flat battery... I don't dare to drive into JB not knowing when it's going to die on me.
conti cars have alot of problems mainly due to mechanics taking short cuts. mine is very reliable coz i do most of the repairs myself. engine repairs take weeks. suspension repairs take days. that's how long it takes to check and replace every problem part. outside workshops don't have the time. my aircon is super cold and reliable coz i check everything & replace many tiny parts which outside workshops don't bother coz your aircon will last a long time and their business will be affected. jap cars have more spacious engine bays which enhances the life span of parts & makes repairs easier. conti engine bays are quite tight so it's harder. everything is heavier, thicker & more expensive
Now back to Japanese for 5 years, not a single issue...

Absolute peace of mind.
jap cars are made for fuel economy, reliability & ease of repairs. but this means lower survivability in a crash eg getting sandwiched between 2 containers on a downward slope along loyang ave
