Funny how so many people jump to conclusions so fast.

(1) There was a motorbike on the right lane

(2) The Saab veered left and sideswiped the Merc to avoid hitting the motorcycle

Vid doesn't seem to show they were racing.

(3) ST reported "The 42-year-old male car driver is assisting with ongoing police investigations" i.e. not arrested immediately

Could be case of Sudden Unintended Acceleration (SUA) or what
could be protrusion of dicky flooring accelerator sympton?

for me, the white merc is not directly linked to the cause of the accident, but he played a part in it, no doubt

he sped up just because of the Saab trying to overtake him for whatever reason and this action is a very common (and stupid) behavior found in many of the drivers here. There is absolutely no reason for him to speed up, other than only to satisfy own ego and stop the other party from being in front of you, a very inmature way to show dominance. White merc driver most prolly think just cos he was driving an expensive merc that is perhaps relatively powerful and what better way to prove that by using all that engine power he has.

and because he played a part in this stupid short game, he also witness the tragic outcome first hand.
First, he got the shock of the Saab actually running into him while the Saab was avoiding the bike (i bet he didn't expect that) and he would have gone "wtf?!" but he also didn't expect the Saab to plough into the intersection still at full speed and cause the chaos.

First reaction would be "oh crap" and then "better distant myself from all this"

Hence faster submit the video in attempt to vindicate himself.

Yes, it is also plausible that, even if the white merc didn't speed up the Saab may still plough through that intersection at speed due to driver being under the influence or alcohol or drugs whatever.... but the fact that the merc was involved with the saab just moments before the accident... i doubt he can sleep at night.

He did speed up at the last minute attempting to block the black car. He didn’t expect the black car to be more siao than him. Merc car is no saint lah.
He is famous now. Just serach his car plate, all bad records reveal his ego.

Guys, did u see the video where 2 days before the accident, on 20th Apr the white merc driver tried to force a cam bike off the road?

It does seem indeed that the white merc driver is no good driving angel.
Sadly there is no law against bad behaviour.

While many called the white merc innocent......he may be innocent where no laws could pursue him but not moral laws. 😏

The gal that is on the Honda steam that flick and roll with one of the passenger door open throw the gal out when all the debris is flying.
And she was flunk out so fast flying among the debris and from both the impact video clip, can see he body thrown across to the KIA SUv and when it roll after the impact, can see car back wheel jerk up like going rolling onto a bump before it stop.

I can see it clearly the speed of her body throw under the wheel of the SUV. That’s is why before SCDF and ambulance come, some helpful soul try to lift the SUV to pull her leg out from the wheel.
So sad, may these 2 souls RIP. Wonder did she worn the seatbelt? If yes, will the outcome be different.

Sadly that the last generation of Honda Stream which Honda Japan ever produced before EOL that only come with 2 front SRS airbags that don’t even help at all from this kind of side T-bone impact.

Sadly that another old SAAB without active ADAS features that likely if have will likely auto E-brake when front windshield camera and front sensor detect a likelihood of impact.

New cars owners better buy cars with good passive and active safely features, best to get with 6,7 or best with 8 SRS airbags and come with active ADAS although you might need to top up more to get a higher trim variant of the vehicle. Safely is more important, also if can read up on the vehicle ANCAP or ENCAP safety rating of that car, is it 4 or 5 stars.

even if its not racing, quite likely some ego play. merc buay song someone faster than him so he sped up

can't be denying the joker sped up after the saab was trying to pass him, got paid in a sideswipe

this is not his father road. he should keep to the speed limit, drive safely and overtake safely. Blaming others for getting in his way or not move to other lane for him to speed is wrong.
I guess similarly blaming the white car for the black car exceeding the speed limit would not make sense as well. He can choose to drive safely and not speed into a crowded junction.

Apparently he is ego and he has bad records with another drivers. Internet remembers him a lot..
Karma will catch up with him if law cannot deal with this bugger. His karma bar now is fully charged
Yup, this guy is also a nuisance on the road.

It's an inherently issue in Singapore. Everyone is rushing for time due to some reason.
That's because time = money in singapore. Just look at how we calculate car prices. Number 1 metric is depreciation!

Really miserable thinking about it.
