I also bought a simple pancake lens from someone on clubsnap, at first seemed like it was ok but after a while found out got some issues. Sad....
Seems like there are many unethical people out there selling lemons. How can they live with themselves knowing they con others?

I always make sure I sell things in good condition. No wonder I had a potential buyer who asked if the thing I was selling had mould in it. It was for babies for goodness’ sake. I said I would never sell things with mould.

I had a bad experience buying a 50mm 1.4 years ago from a professional photographer. I was a novice and the photographer convinced me that it was because I didn’t have enough experience that the images were not sharp.

I ended up paying a few hundred dollars for a useless lens. Would never buy a second hand camera equipment again.

I wanted to try out the cameras to see if it’s easy to adjust the settings for portrait and landscape but I feel that the salesguy was not able to fully advise me. In fact, he didn’t recommend me a Sony at all. I will try out another shop today to see if the experience is better.

Yes. I will be taking my mother’s pictures a lot because this could be her first and last Europe trip.

If I get the Z5, I am likely to get the kit lens 24-200mm and the adaptor so that I could mount my DX 50mm 1.8G provider it’s not mouldy by now.

A consideration for me is the size and weight of Z5. It feels closer to D90. Just slightly smaller and lighter but not much. Z50 matches my expectations of size and weight but I am unwilling to buy a mirrorless equivalent of D90.

Hope another shop can advise me better on Sony and the handling of Z5 today.

I remember reading tons of the legendary 50mm so I bought the 1.8G and 1.4G. Unfortunately I found the framing too tight on my D90. Then someone mentioned that for DX cameras, a 35mm was more suitable and I found that to be true. Since then, my 50mm 1.8 has been sitting in the dry cabinet. Don’t even know if it’s ok now.

You need to remember the difference between ff focal lengths and crop sensors like your dx format d90 (essentially apsc)

50 on apsc is more for head and shoulders shots.35 is easier to zoom in and out by walking.....

He said Sony is built for video. He’s a videographer himself and he uses Sony for video. Only high end models are good for portraits. Otherwise, the portraits are just average. He said Nikon still gives the best skin colour.
IMHO.
My 2 cents.
It depends on what is being shot i.e. the existing skin color of the subject.

You can go to DPReview. Some of the camera review, under Image Quality, you can do a comparison of the output of different brands of 4 different skin tone types.

e.g. https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canon-eos-r100-review

Also, maybe this is a good video.

P.S. Equipment first. :ROFLMAO:

My best lens for Nikon APS-C for portrait at this moment is Sigma 50mm F1.4 DG HSM - ART
Sharp wide open. Nice bokeh.
Suddenly, photography skill level increase at least 2x. :ROFLMAO:
IIRC, those ancient photography books, first few chapters talk about equipment especially lenses.

I will choose 24mm and 50mm. (FF)
The unfortunately thing for me is that my APS-C, there is no decent 24mm equivalent (16mm).

I thought this is the best combination too.. not too heavy not too light.... tried slogging a A7RV and 24-70 and it's heavy, not at first but after half a day walking outside.

Those for APS-C ? Looking to switch to Sony if those lenses are good. Prime better than Zoom, technically. (y)
Any comments about the IQ ?

aps-c. cursory inspection is decently sharp towards corners at wide open. I had a blast using them in near pitch darkness wide open high iso recently. last trip to jp i wasnt allowed to use tripod for the gundam show or temple night illumination so basically shot them mostly wide open.....

Someone had bad experience buying 50mm for a few hundred, I had bad experience getting 50mm at SGD 3K+ because this **** guy told me have warranty, then roti prata on my way there, told me wait at COVE, then told me warranty cannot find when I was near, upon meeting say it was a GIFT. Finally say take it or leave it
Dirty rat. Lucky it was working fine

Unfortunately Sony sizes are getting bigger and bigger. Went to Sony centre to molest an A7r5, it is way heftier than my current A7r. It is even bigger than the A1. At this rate they are going to become nearly as colossal as a DSLR..

Detractors complained about the early Sony shallow grip. I rather have a tiny full frame with option to add on small rigs or batt grips than to be stuck with bulk.

Dun usually hear Leica folks complain about ergonomics when they dun even have an integrated "grip"
