Another option -- using XIaomi solution

1) Xiaomi BE10000 as main router, RMB 1599 (no 6GHz band)
https://www.mi.com/shop/buy/detail?product_id=18030

2) Xiaomi BE5000 as mesh node, RMB 279
https://www.mi.com/shop/buy/detail?product_id=19990

3) Xiaomi four-port 2.5G switch with two SFP+ ports as the main switch, RMB299 (or cheaper alternatives)
https://www.mi.com/shop/buy/detail?product_id=20072

4) Xiaomi 8-port gigabit switch, RMB 129
https://www.mi.com/shop/buy/detail?product_id=20073

5) Connection scheme
XGS-PON ONT in DB box --> patch panel Living room LAN port D2 --> Xiaomi BE10000 in living room (10G WAN port)
Xiaomi BE10000 SFP+ port --> future 10G capable wired device
Xiaomi BE10000 2.5G LAN port --> 2.5G capable wired device in living room
Xiaomi BE10000 2.5G LAN port --> Living room LAN port D3 --> patch panel in DB box --> Xiaomi 2.5G switch in DB Box --> patch panel --> other room LAN ports

Living room LAN port D1 --> cheap 1G switch like TP-Link TL-SG105 --> Smart TV and Gaming console

1) You can get BNIB TP-Link EB810v (WiFi 7, 10G capable) from Carousell at around S$400. Then get a 2.5G switch at less than S$100.

Edit -- you can get from Starhub directly by going with the S$55.39 per month 5Gbps option.
https://www.starhub.com/personal/st...ultraspeed-5gbps-wifi-7_ultraspeed-5gbps.html

UltraSpeed 5Gbps with Wifi 7 router
$55.39 per month
1 Free TP –Link EB810v WiFi 7 router
Amazon Prime on us for 3 months
Enjoy Free installation & advise on the best router placement for optimum Wifi experience

2) Connection scheme
XGS-PON ONT in DB box --> patch panel Living room LAN port D2 --> EB810v in living room (10G WAN port)
EB810v 10G LAN port --> future 10G capable wired device
EB810v 2.5G LAN port 1--> 2.5G capable wired device in living room
EB810v 2.5G LAN port 2 --> Living room LAN port D3 --> patch panel in DB box --> 2.5G switch in DB Box --> patch panel --> other room LAN ports
EB810v 2.5G LAN port 3 --> not used

Living room LAN port D1 --> cheap 1G switch like TP-Link TL-SG105 --> Smart TV and Gaming console
Main bedroom LAN port D6 --> another AP

Thank you so much for your both options.

For option 1, any recommended router I can buy to use as AP?

For option 2 using Xiaomi, I can go search for the models you mention via Taobao or its recommeneded to purchase them off mi shop?

Either way i go with, I will get wifi speed based on 5gbps and 1gbps for tv and gaming console(which is more than enough anyway) correct?

by right, it's already being issued with ONT

but you can always double-check upon signing-up with them. otherwise, just request for ONT liao
Not yet, someone from StarHub just called me yesterday to encourage me to re-contract on their new 5G plan but I said I don't want ONR, he said can only choose 10G o_O

I went to check at Starhub store, they say can choose ONT but will only give you ONT with no router at all. Otherwise can go with their $55 plan to get 1 free TP Link router.

1) If you do not have high requirements, then you can get TP-Link Archer AX72 as the AP. It is about S$80 BNIB from Carouseell.

2) Usually I will buy from official Xiaomi Taobao/Tmall flagship store.

3) Yes, you get 5Gbps from the main router. But take note typically you will get about 1 to 1.6Gbps from good WiFi 6 clients at close range. To achieve >2Gbps WiFi speed, you need to go with Option 1 and have WiFi 7 client and use the 6GHz band. Xiaomi BE10000 does not have 6GHz band support.

4) Yes your TV and gaming console will only get 1Gbps bandwidth which should be more than enough.

Thank you so much for your quick replies. TP-Link archer AX72 only has 1 gbps port so that will mean the wifi speed I will get in master bedroom will only be based on 1gbps?

Currently using SH 1G at $46 with UniFi UDR, Lite8 POE Switch and U6 Pro AP.

So if I get SH 5G plan. My bottleneck will be the UDR and the Switch right?
  • UDR - 1G WAN
  • Lite 8 POE Switch 1G per ports
U6 Pro AP no issue?

Yes that is correct.

You can of course use 2.5G capable AP like TP-Link Archer AX55 Pro (about S$149 from Challenger) and Archer AX72 Pro.

Starhub actually recommends another EB810v to form a mesh with the first EB810v.

Starhub UltraSpeed FAQ
https://www.starhub.com/personal/support/article.html?id=kD5GRQtfxB3LxaEDMjuFm5

I need more coverage on my home network with the TP-Link EB810v, what can I do?
You can extend the coverage by purchasing another TP-Link EB810v. The 2nd unit can be purchased at $15 per month (for 24 months) from StarHub during initial sign-up.

How does the TP-Link EB810v mesh work?
The TP-Link EB810v uses Easymesh* technology and is compatible with another TP-Link EB810v. For best performance and compatibility, we recommend meshing with another EB810v.

*Mesh nodes that are available from other brands would not be compatible with the TP-Link EB810V. We strongly recommend using another TP-Link EB810v for best performance.

I assume you want to go with the XGS-PON ONT option and then use your own router and AP (Unifi ecosystem).

UDR is for sure a bottleneck. It is actually not even good for 1Gbps (about 700Mbps throughput), let alone 5Gbps. You may have to upgrade to UDM Pro or UDM SE.

As whether the Lite 8 PoE switch and Unifi U6 Pro AP are bottleneck or not, it will depend on your use cases.

For example, if you only have one 10G capable device and connect it to the 10G LAN port of the UDM Pro (or UDM SE), the other devices are just using gigabit Ethernet ports, then they not be the bottleneck.

U6 Pro --> up to 1Gbps only.

WiFi 6
6 spatial streams
140 m² (1,500 ft²) coverage
350+ connected devices
Powered using PoE
GbE uplink

Thanks for the confirmation.

I saw reviews that tp link router issued by SH not compatible with other ISP. Prehaps I need to go with Xiaomi in case I changed ISP in future.

I can only sign up the $55.39 per month 5G plan with Starhub for their router?

What router is it ar?

not true.. I using TP-Link EB810v as AP with TP-Link AX73 as main router just to test how good it is before lay a cat 8 backbone cable under my false ceiling. You can use TP-Link EB810v as any other router with any ISP as long its on ONT and not on ONR.

I am waiting 2x appointments to complete for 5gb plan activation.

You have different options if you want to go with XGS-PON ONT.

1) Easiest way is to go with the S$55.39 per month plan with TP-Link EB810v WiFi 7 router (10G capable).

More about EB810v: take note it is a service provider version locked to Starhub.
https://www.tp-link.com/sg/service-provider/wifi-router/eb810v/
https://www.starhub.com/personal/support/article.html?id=kD5GRQtfxB3LxaEDMjuFm5

2) You can also go with the XGS-PON ONT with your own router, by going for the S$45 plan but opt to go with the ONT. It is said that you need to go to the shop if you want to have this option. By default, it will come with the Nokia all-in-one ONR.

3) There are many different options to have 10G capable router now, it all depends on your budget. Most likely it will be more expensive than going with the S$55.39 plan with TP-Link EB810v.

Examples:
a) MR issued TP-Link Archer BE805 10G capable WiFi 7 router, not locked to MR but a general model, about S$400 BNIB on Carousell.
b) Asus RT-AX89X WiFi 6
c) Asus ROG GT-BE98 (S$1099) or ZenWiFi BQ16 WiFi 7 (S$898)
d) Ubiquiti UDM Pro (S$599) or UDM SE (S$799)
e) Xiaomi BE10000 (RMB 1599)
f) Asus RT-BE88U
g) TP-Link Archer BE800 or Deco BE85
f) Netgear Nighthawk RS700S or Orbi 970 (super expensive)

You can of course use TP-Link EB810v with other ISPs, but then you may not get FW updates. Same for Singtel issued TP-Link HB810.

They are both service provider models. I will not recommend buying them and use with other ISPs.

MR issued TP-Link Archer BE805 is a consumer model and you can use it with any other ISPs.
