Hi All.

I got a targeted offer by Starhub for 5GB plan with 1 Nokia ONR + 1 Nokia Beacon 2 Extender for $29.55 a month (24m).

I am deciding between this and Viewquest 3GB which is net ~$30 a month after discount.

My concern is the Nokia ONR connectivity around the house.. don't want to be buying extenders and putting everywhere..

Any advise on which is better?

Maybe you want to check with Starhub whether it is possible to change to ONT and buy your own router. Nokia XGS-PON ONR is not famous for stability and wireless performance. Nokia Beacon 2 is even worse (but probably okay as a mesh node).

For VQ 3Gbps, I tend to think it is a good option since it uses bridged ONR and you can get your own router. But you may have to pay for static IP if you hit the limitation of CGNAT (eg: remote access to home, hosting services, etc). And it is probbaly better to wait for more reports on the stability side. The initial reports seem to be good.

I have checked with StarHub Shop, not possible to swap the onr to ont. If insist on ont price will revert to $45 per month and not $29.55.

Apparently this $29.55 5Gbps package is bundled with NOKIA ONR and the Nokia Beacon 2. Request for ONT will change the monthly subscription back to $45. And do note once the 24 months is up price will also revert back to $45. There is also a termination charge of $30+ if not continuing after contract. Think StarHub is the only isp to charge termination fees for termination after contract.

Hi all, just switched to the 5gbps plan (with ont) and having some challenges.

is there a way to enable WPA2 for my MLO network (2.4 / 5 / 6ghz) on my tplink eb810v? All i see is 'wpa3' and 'open advanced'.

My ps4 is unable to connect the 5g channel, and only the 2.4ghz due to it only supporting wpa2.

Been gaming on it and its so much laggier than when i was even on the 1gbps plan. Surfing internet is faster than before but oddly seem to be experiencing lag with gaming

EDIT: in fact, even with my ps5 which is directly ethernet cable connected to the EB810V, i still experience intermitten lag. Kinda frustrating cos i didnt have issues with the 1gbps plan
Hi , may I know ur 5G plan ONT modem model and brand ? Is it stable than Nokia ? Thx.

Starhub XGS-PON ONT model is Nokia XS-240X-A (MR is Nokia XS-250X-A) based on the reports.

ONT will be in general stable. The network stability if using ONT will depend on the router used after the ONT in general.

Starhub issued TP-Link EB810v router (at S$15 * 24 =S$360 from Starhub if you opt to go with the ONT) has good HW spec but have some firmware bugs. It is a service provider model (locked to Starhub for FW updates) and the firmware updates may be slower than consumer models like TP-Link Archer BE800 or BE805.

Take note 10G capable true WiFi 7 routers (with 6GHz band) are still expensive in general. The cheapest non service provider model is probably Archer BE805 dumped by MR users.

Better ones like Asus ROG GT-BE98 has the listed price at S$1099.

Even M1 get into true 2.5Gbps and MR also get onboard with 3Gbps plan. Come on SH, stop the stupid 2Gbps (1+1) and start offering 2.5 or 3Gbps ultra speed plan with ONT at $35. 🙏🏼

So you didn’t sign the 5Gbps plan at $45 and request for ONT? some of them say is possible.

Well, MR is SH in reality.

And SH also has a ONR only 5Gbps plan at $30 as well.

I believe the S$29.55 per month SH 5Gbps plan is only a temporary promotion. Let's see how long it will last. They also insist that it is only with Nokia ONR. Once you choose to change to ONT, it reverts back to the normal S$45 per month pricing.

Quite lame actually, how expensive is a ONT + That bundle router that need to be priced at $45, I rather they give an option with only just that ONT and own router at $30 as well instead of useless NOKIA ONR, my asus router is definitely 5 times better than Nokia.

Exactly. Not so sure why they are so stubborn here.

That shown that SH actually can offer their 5Gbps plan at $30 with their so called “promotional price” and still make a profit.

Lucky my plan officially end on Jan 2025 at 24 months, I shall be patient and wait for SH to further tweak their ultra speed plan option and bring cost down.

More likely is clearing of the useless old Nokia ONR stock. SH should just partner with Asus for their router selection. Always give crap Nokia, Linksys, TP-Link 🤷🏻🤦🏻‍♂️

Intend to sign up for the 29.55 plan. For new 4rm BTO. I have read through the forums and noted the limitations on the Nokia ONR but my family are just general users connecting mostly on WiFi I think we can live with it if the connection is stable.

For installation day, I'm assuming the Nokia ONR will be placed in the db box / utilities cabinet near main door as there is a power supply there and also lan panel there with connection to the various rooms

As an additional Nokia Beacon 2 will be supplied, if I want a wired connection (onr<>panel in db box ; room<>beacon 2), will I need to purchase the ethernet cables beforehand or will the installation team supply (or does the onr/beacon packaging include ethernet cable)?

Thanks!

Apparently this is a targeted offer. Are you currently with Starhub or with other ISP?

My friend (current using Starhub 1Gbps plan) went to Starhub Shop in Jurong Point to try to negotiate with them to see if he is qualified to get the plan or not -- he does not mind using the Nokia ONR.

But then the staff told him that the plan was only for targetted users (including those not with Starhub currently).
