Update: Samsung has provided a one time free repair. Replaced the whole housing and battery.

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of submitting a complaint to CASE against Samsung - my pricey Z Fold 6 (crafted black) has started peeling around the buttons and it's gotten worse over time. Samsung has refused to do anything about it (and yes I have Care+, not that it matters).

There are a lot of reports online but here's just 1 example:
https://www.tomsguide.com/phones/sa...g-paint-on-anodized-phones-that-shouldnt-peel

How can a charger cause the paint to peel??? And they don't even include a charger with their phones! Plus I have not been using any lousy charger, I've been using UGreen.... shouldn't their phones come with a huge disclaimer if there's this kind of caveat??

To make a complaint, I first need to sign up for a 1 year membership (about S$27?), then another $10+ as admin fee. Quite ridiculous frankly but it is what it is.

Is it even worth it to do it? I don't know how strong my case is, but I just think Samsung can just keep reiterating their case that this is a cosmetic damage and not covered.

Step 1: don't buy samsuck.

Step 2: see step 1.
I am inclined to agree with you, after this episode, a Samsung phone is the last thing I'll own. I've only bought phones 2nd-hand in the past and this is the first time I plunged straight into a brand new Z Fold 6. I'll keep bringing up this episode everywhere to remind everyone that there are better options with other brands where the paint won't peel :)

Do you have the booklets with you when u bought the phone?
The terms and everything u gone through? wear and tear?
I am sure the LEGAL team at Samsung is paid to cover their PIGU, cosmetic damage hard to prove also
And besides CASE the paper tiger , even local shops the cannot face..u want them vs SAMSUNG.

IF there are case, in other country Class Action for this maybe u got chance

:)

You learnt the lesson late, but better than not learning. Same thing happened to me when I used their Note II decades ago.

I ever bought the infamous Note 7 too, but for flipping purposes. I was lucky.

go straight to small claims tribunal, don't need to bother about CASE

but not sure if this cosmetic defect is worth your time
thank you. hmm so SCT better than CASE? SCT filing fee is $10, probably takes me about 30 mins to file the claim. Might not do anything much but if more people actually do something, maybe it'd make them sit up...

I told you before and I'll tell you again.

Take them to case and post on social media like IG and Facebook or Stomp.

Last time Nokia care service centre in Singapore tio bankruptcy gazette sticker all over their assets because 1 Nokia phone user took them to court. They ignored it and the court rule in favour over the customer. I can't remember the exact issue but it was over something way more trivial than your situation and the customer won.

Don't waste your time asking for opinions and just do it. I'm not saying you might win but at the very least, this will raise public awareness and media attention, something which brands like Samsung will only be reactive to when sh¡+ hits the ceiling.

Good luck and all the best TS.

That how they get you. Don't include a charger in the box mean any third party charger will get the blame for Samsung defects.

Any little bump or scratch on the hinger will void your warranty.

Don't even get me started on the software update / green lines appearing incidents.

Just learn your $1k + lesson and move on from Samsung.

Can post a picture of the fault here ? I guess poor material quality. Low chance to seek grievances.

The thing is how do you prove that your paint peeling is caused by an ungrounded charger and not your own negligence.

So you have a weak case to present to SCT or even CASE.

If you can prove that it isn't just cosmetic damage, then you have a more legitimate case. And you already admitted to using a ugreen charger, which IMO is a terrible choice actually. You spent so much on a phone, and then don't use Samsung original charger, well that's on you.
