WC undercuts its competitors by quite a bit. In order to do that, WC probably tried to garner subscribers by taking a loss. It won't be surprising if they make a call to end the toxic competition. If it jacks up the price by $5, it's still a low-cost leader. LOL!

1. With the following extra charges, if WC bumps up the price by S$5, they will exceed SIMBA's pricing for 10Gbps.

https://whizcomms.com.sg/fibreplus-2-5gbps/
$54.50 WhizComms Installation Fee and $61.04 NetLink Trust Activation Fee apply.

2. SIMBA 10Gbps at S$29.99 per 30days.
https://simba.sg/broadband
  • Waived NLT Service Activation fee worth $61.04
  • FREE ONT device worth $118

This is indeed true for your scenario. For my case, I'm an existing WC customer, I won't pay the setup fees again, so WC should be cheaper.

Most people wont realise the hidden costs. I’m more annoyed how isp can advertise “plans from $xx” but its just a discount on 3-10 months not the average price for the entire contract period.

Like that might as well claim plans from $0 like myrepublic mobile plan.

Take note the report here is that you will not get S$21.80 per month when recontract with WC. The last report shows S$24 per month, which is still a good price though.

Whether it's 1gbps/2.5gbps/5gbps/10gbps, these are mere statistics on paper only. There're very few ways to utilize and saturate the fat pipes using real world applications except speed test related websites whose machines are probably a few hops away located onsite at the ISP premises. Lol!

I cannot reach even 900.mbps when testing speed on two wifi devices simultaneously although I have setup two access points. Wonder why.

However I can exceed 1 mbps slightly at 1.1 mbps when using 1 wifi on 1 access point and another through ethernet cable connection.

WC was hinting at their 10gbps plan lol
With all these 10 gbps offering subsidised by Government, what's the use case that requires such speed?

Is it worth it to overlook things like ONT/ONR to get these very affordable 10gbps plans? like what do power users actually use their 10gbps for

I mean M1 500mbps @ 30.45 vs WC 10gbps @29.99...

most ISP are pushing ONR too isnt it?

Let's limit the talk to 3Gbps/5Gbps/10Gbps plan here. You can see you have the options to go with ONT or ONR.

Singtel 5Gbps/10Gbps --> ONR
Starhub 5Gbps/10Gbps --> ONR or ONT (more expensive plans with EB810v)
MR 3Gbps/10Gbps -- ONT
VQ 10Gbps --> bridged ONR (same as ONT). The user can request to configure in router mode though.
SIMBA 10Gbps --> ONT
WC 10Gbps --> ONR

WC is charging high cost for the 10G WiFi 7 router (looks like the same as Singtel: TP-Link HB810). But you can of course use the 10G plan as true 2.5G plan and buy cheaper 2.5G capable router.

And I believe the ONR provided is the same as Singtel -- ZTE F8648P ONR. It was easy to bridge the ZTE F8648P ONR. But with later FW changes and Singtel side changes, now bridging is not working.

BTW, WC 10G WiFi 7 router bundle is more expensive than VQ 10Gbps eero Max 7 bundle.

VQ eero Max 7 bundle . The effective price is at S$53.75 per month.

10Gbps
$45 / month
(U.P. $60/month)
$15 Off for 10 months. U.P. thereafter.

FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY: WAIVED Activation Fees worth $112.27:
Waived NLT Activation Fee (worth $57.77)
Waived Admin Fee (worth $54.50)

Keeping fingers crossed and awaiting update for the 10G ONR before deciding.

1) ZTE F8648P ONR used to be easy to brige. But Singtel did some changes to make it difficult. One Singtel user managed to get another Nokia XGS-PON ONR and mentioned that is easy to bridge. However, that Nokia ONR has not been deployed.

So I tend to guess WC 10Gbps will use ZTE F8648P XGS-PON ONR.

2) Actually you may want to consider VQ 10Gbps instead of WC 10Gbps. Pricing is quite competitive for VQ 10Gbps now. It uses bridged XGS-PON ONR (effectively the same as ONT, even though they allow users to request to configure in unbridged router moder).

For example, you can choose to go with the Huawei XGS-PON ONU stick (S$99 top-up which is a good deal) if you have SFP+ compatible router or switch. Effective price is S$38.75 per month plus S$99 one time charge.

I like the SFP+ Module Bundle. Hope more ISP will have this option.

I checked with Whizcomms chat earlier and they confirmed they'll be using the F8648P V2-1. If upgrading to 10Gbps broadband, should consider taking the chance with Whizcomms ONR or go with Viewqwest?
