Looking to buy a new standing fan in JB.

Don’t really care about the warranty.

Is it more affordable to buy there as compared to Singapore?

any recommended brands?

TIA

I realised that my regular tailor in SG gets malaysian to do his production, but he do all the cuts.
His work is very good but quite pricey, SGD150 per shirt or pants for very decent material

So I was thinking of getting a tailor in Malaysia, the prices are RM300 onward.
I think do in SG still better. :(

Always wondered how to stay long-term (retire?) in Malaysia legally if not married to a local or without the MM2H visa...
Dun bother, i did thorough research.

I think after Johor King step down, you will see a big turn in policies.
If you die die wanna go Malaysia to stay, the ones that are more foreigner friendly in term of Visa, is Sarawak.
U can't use that as a loophole to stay in West Malaysia though

Thats why JB not really a safe place for seniors to retire. Except prob those malls with residence on top? So far can only think of paradigm and KSL.

Many older seniors don't know how to use grab. Ie prob can't stay at landed.

Not so good for boomers who can't fend for themselves or know how to drive.

But for the current sandwiched generations in their 30-50s can consider, but must manage expectations. Go out don't wear gold chains and carry branded bags. Must behave like a local and low profile.

Don't be a lalazai lol

After factoring in:
Transport fee, gst, rental, stall salary + profit etc
No way would b chip chip…

Make in Malaysia Best Buy it in Malaysia.
The medicine I buy in jb is cheaper than poly clinic subsidized.

Rent is the biggest.

If you only import and sell via e-Commerce like Shopee / Lazada I'm sure you can keep prices competitive but I believe they have a standard RRP so cannot undercut and kill other big chains like Fairprice / Watsons / Guardian

If retiring in JB, commuting between JB and SG should be relatively easy.

But I ever had a conversation with a Grab driver, I think his daughter / son in law in a local and they have a visa of sorts that each time it renews, the duration gets doubled, from 3 months to 6 months, then 2 years, or something like that.

It was a grab car conversation don't hold me up to it ah....

I used to use a tailor from Harbourfront Seah Im market. There are a few tailors there and iirc they sub it out to seamstresses in Batam / Indo to do the manufacturing after taking the measurements and cuts.

I only make 2 pairs of gurkha pants back then and was pre C19.

In terms of fabric, is your tailor fabric quality good? I am also looking for alternative tailor or considering to get big brands at outlet store with better quality and then alter to fit.

Thank you for sharing!

In the midst of buying a place in JB. Might just apply for the MM2H when the time comes...

Or in and out of Malaysia every 20+days.

I have read on many occasions that visa runs can come to an abrupt end? Also, there is a need to be out of Malaysia for about as many days as you are in, i.e. ~182 days spent outside the country, in order to avoid trouble with entry via tourist visa?

The thing is even if you can apply now, it doesn't mean that you can renew indefinitely.
The Malaysia govt is simply not reliable. I suggest that you don't rush to buy first.

There's no fear of losing out, because Malaysia has plenty of overhang units.
Most MM2H visa holders are PRC.

The number of SG holder is pathetic.

Visa run is indeed illegal. My friend was warned, and they scare until come back to SG to stay.
He has a JB property.

Next year, Hainan Island will be officially a free trade port. I'm aiming there instead.
Maybe Taiwan is also a good option especially with healthcare.

I've also count Thailand out, the place is too messy.

Will you be retiring or still employed but working as a digital nomad? If salaried income your tax resident might be an issue to be taxed as a SG tax resident or not.

I think I see the result of my tailor if he is still as good as before first. He is quite old and I've not made any shirts from him for a number of years.

But his style, and fit. Is can stand beside prada, Hugo that kind. I used to be in branded.

I look at some of the photos from jb tailors, don't look very smart nor the fitting are good. :(

Before you do, rent a place in Jb and stay there, get a feel of local life. If regret can leave any time.
Once you buy, you are lock!
