I thought the defence should know the redacted message else how did they find out YN redacted message??
No, the defence until now still dunno what is the YN redacted message. All that they received are the redacted version of the message log with the blacked out portion. That's why the defence is applying to the judge to allow them to see the unredacted version as something interesting might be found there since Nathan essentially admitted during questioning that he might be the one who actively called Khan to continue the lie but he Loh Pei Ying redacted that part out of their message log as she didn't want Nathan to look bad.
