Can we just have normal food back? More and more hawker centres selling weird food to justify high prices when all I am looking for is bak chor mee, economic rice and chicken rice for lunch or dinner. Lagi worse those weird food not only expensive but also take long time to prepare. That kind of concept reserve for cafe more suitable.
hawker fare in the 1980-90s without all these woke "social enterprise" nonsense was the best

Agree with some of his points:

1. Hawker centres should be directly managed by gahmen (and, to me, in a no-frills manner)
2. Revisit rental renewal process (why should rent revert to market for those who bided high to take a gd spot)

Disagree with his point to allow hawkers to hire WP workers.

Many people will end up using the names of their family members to bid for stalls and hire workers to run. Hawker centres will turn into kopitiams with runaway costs and bosim food. And doesn't this suggestion goes against his point about keeping the "traditional hawker culture—fueled by the dedication and entrepreneurial spirit of individual hawkers"?

Lastly, find this statement of his weird:

He believed that the government should find ways to meet its objectives without forcing hawkers to bear the cost.

I dun have to be an MP to be able to say something like this.

More importantly, as an MP, he is part of the gahmen and should show us he is close to the ground, understand issues big and small and can come up with workable solutions that are win-win, and not just state the obvious.

Overall, 2 pluses 1 minus 1 meh.

This social enterprise is really just some jiak liao bee scholar MP's KPI to justify his/her bonus.
It's easy to see how things go, many of these hawker centres are not popular with residents.

1) rents are lowered to min
2) price fixed at $2-4

so hard meh.......
But if people continue to vote for them, don't expect any changes😆

These people shouldn't complain and just enjoy higher priced items

No one cares about hawker spirits anymore. Youngsters in particular heck care. Disgusting hawker food, poorly maintained toilets and weak selection of foods. LMW should get with the times more.

Social Enterprise Management is redundant and may cause more harm than good ?

Is it a failure on concept and implementation ?

Those private operators are just adding cost and giving more headaches to hawkers and consumers ?

With the rising prices of imported raw ingredients and cost of living..... yes to pt 2.

Who is going to subsidised the costs of ingredients, utilities and sustenance for the hawker or person running the stall? A charitable organisation?

Over-management for a hawker centre. Its a freak hawker centre and we get idiots adding trays return system, wasting money on trivial 3rd party management of washing dishes.
"We will be continuing with the SEHC model, and the upcoming centres that will be built will be operated by successful socially-conscious operators," said Dr Khor, adding that the new hawker centres have done reasonably well, and achieved the social objectives set.

"Whether it is new hawker centres or existing hawker centres, and whatever the management model, hawker centres built by the government will continue to be owned and regulated by the government."

Think the irony is impression last time long time ago the prices still quite ok one. Then local kpkb people anyhow jack up rent, thus control more and more. End up now think by many impression local is perhaps the biggest contributor to the price increase overall, either directly or indirectly, with its many patterns and cost of living increase here and there. :s22:
