I think they are just being very sneaky now. This is what happens with absolute power. And I think it will become worse In future.

Using it for verification is different from making the info publicly available leh
Banks require ur pin for otc matters, so can also make pins publicly available?
Same for phone addresses etc?
brain got cotton?

Need to physically in library to borrow book, face will be captured by cctv.

By this logic might as well said use other people nric number to get free medical services at polyclinic and hospital, as the self registration kiosk only required to scan nric number barcode.
prevention is always better than detection
the latter you need a lot more resources, and will suffer time and monetary loss to rectify it

From google:

Josephine Teo is the Minister for Digital Development and Information (MDDI) in Singapore. She is also the Minister-in-charge of Smart Nation and Cybersecurity.

Thank you, PAP.
Thank you, Minister Teo.
Lead by example

If she discloses her NRIC number publicly, it will be more convincing :o

And I guess by extension, they are also exempted from the legal consequence of disclosing it.

How convenient.

It's worse.

From user feedback, eg @DigDub, it seems like changes had already been made to remove privacy for nirc. It is now legal for organizations to collect and disclose nirc in full.

And based on the news article, they will start educating public on the changes and start publicizing full nirc in 2025.

Indeed, the current administration has adopted a very defensive stance, in which any form of critique, is seen as a challenge to the incumbent, and they are not allowed to show any weakness. Cannot admit wrongdoing, cannot give any ammo to oppo.
Instead of working to allay concerns, they resort to gaslighting. Because allaying concerns meant that they have to recognise the issues in the first place.
And recognising issues is "weakness"; cannot give ammo to oppo, so let's just change the narrative.
Why vote for a gahmen that treats its' citizens like dummies? Sinkies ought to grow some backbone and have some self respect...

how come he got rewarded with more posts though:s11::s14:

For public agencies

It should be noted that the new NRIC rules under the PDPA, do not apply to transactions with Singapore public agencies (i.e. Government Ministries, Statutory Boards, and Organs of State).

Instead, data protection and data sharing requirements for public agencies are provided for by the Public Sector Governance Act (PSGA). The Act prescribes a separate set of standards for public agencies that is more stringent than the PDPA requirements.

For example, public agencies and their information security systems are subject to regular compulsory audits for compliance with data protection requirements.

The Government has also implemented other data protection measures, such as internet surfing separation on government systems, which are not required of private organisations governed by the PDPA.

Under the PSGA, a public servant who falls afoul of the rules by disclosing protected information without authorisation or by misusing such information could be found guilty of a criminal offence (punishable by a fine or jail term).

"As the NRIC number is a permanent and irreplaceable identifier which can potentially be used to unlock large amounts of information relating to the individual, the collection, use and disclosure of an individual's NRIC number is of special concern. Indiscriminate or negligent handling of NRIC numbers increases the risk of unintended disclosure with the result that NRIC numbers may be obtained and used for illegal activities such as identity theft and fraud. Do they even know what they're talk about not.

If nric is going to become a publicly available info, all the instuition that uses nric as method of verification will need to change its protocol.

And all those that kena fine for nric leak last time gonna counter sue govt liao sibo
