Got targeted for financial fraud
Was a victim of RFID scanning aka credit card scanning (not new but its still prevailing) last night at a popular mall by a caucasian “couple” (digital nomad type profile).
Male - Mid 30s, 1.7XM & bald, carry large messenger bag (possible RFID scanner and notebook inside)
Female - late 20s 1.6XM & looks quite cute

Notebook is used to make multiple purchases “on the spot”, due to festive season when people seldom check their transactions until too late!
MO - What happened?
Was in a new popular mall waiting at Ground level lift lobby going to the restaurants/bars level. Couple came and girl stood 2M away and guy was behind me. Guess they were sizing me up and started to scan already.
Entered lift and I pressed #5. The guy stood very near me on my left ( I guess he saw a bigger budge in my left pocket) with his messenger bag between us at the back of the lift and girl was in front of me facing me at the lift button panel. Only 3 of us were in the lift. Guy started to make conversation and asked me where I am going…..? I wasn’t keen to reply. Just pointed at the button and was thinking in my head (U idiot or what?) He kept very close to me that made me feel uncomfortable, while the girl was further away near the door looking at us. Exited the lift and he kept trying to engage me in conversation (I just gave 1/2 F*** replies) and asking me to go with them, yet standing very close to me (Close enough to even hold hands distance). While the girl was always positioned at the opposite angle 2M away. My senses were trigger! The things he said all don’t add up. The restaurant he mentioned he is going to, they didn’t go in when we walked past it. When I asked them why they are not going in, he changed that they will go to another restaurant opposite and asked me to join them. I told them to go ahead. All the while he stood very close to me and always on left side. I told them I am not interest and left. All the while he had his messenger bag in front (very odd way to carry it) and right hand is hidden in the bag.
I saw they didn’t enter the other restaurant either and a few minutes alter I saw them walking around ground floor.
After 1 hr, I realised I was a target of RFID scanning. The vibe I got was all wrong, every thing don’t add up in that situation. This caucasian “couple” is not a professional hacker in my opinion. The girl is probably a bait/decoy and looks nervous and the guy is an opportunist. Maybe I am targeted for pickpocket? Not sure. But I am 6.1” BBFA. Not sure if they wants to try doing that!
It’s the Xmas festive period now and many people are in a spending mood and distracted with Xmas festivities. So ID thief and pickpockets are rampant. Yes, many credit card details can be bought via dark web. But this is free and high % card details are >90% working! Not all payment platform need CVV.
I don’t have all the latest info on credit card security and hacking details. But I just wanted to share this incident.
Those EDMW whom are wondering how their credit card got authorised charges, maybe …….
So where is my wallet?
In my (right) front pocket, I have my money clip w some cash and RFID sleeves with nothing inside. Removed my Revolut a few days ago due to unauthorised $0 walmart transaction! Card was also frozen prior to Walmart fraud!
So be aware folks!! Never say never!
