Hi, the retention team offered me when I wanted to terminate my 1gbps plan with the mentioned plans in the subject title.

3gbps is going for *$42/46 per MTH whereas 5gbps is going for *$29.55/$33.55.

*Depends on ONT or ONR.

Anybody finds something amiss? The 3gbps deal is only offered by the retention team Nd not a public plan.

Please advise. Am not a very tech-savvy person,so pls bear with any stupid qns that I may ask.

The logical outcome is to pick the plan that suits you and provides the best value. Not clear why you're trying to understand the pricing strategy of SH, which obviously is to retain existing customers at higher price points to maximise revenue.

Hi, yes you are right abt the profit thing.

It's just that though am v tempted to take the 5gbps plan, I have also read many complaints about the plan. A technician from SH even told me this has been the plan with the most complaints.

Based on what I've read, it seems to be the plan with the ONR that's giving the prob.

The router offered to me is not the 10gbps router not the onr. It's a TPLink EX510 (gotta check again).

Any idea and feedback about all that I've mentioned?

Didn't know SH have a 3Gbps plan too.

If they have offer for it to be cheaper than the $29.55 5Gbps ONT plan, I would seriously consider it too.

The 3/5/10Gbps plan should be using the same ONT/ONR.

My guess is...if the 5Gbps plan has issues, the 3/10Gbps should have the same issues.

They are just speed difference.

Just had my SH 5Gbps ONT plan setup last week.

So far so good.

My ST 1Gbps plan still active, so I have a backup in case the SH fibre has any issue (I hope not).

Thanks for your input.

I am thinking of going for the $33.55with ONT TPLink EX510. Any thoughts about that?

I do have financial constraints but still wondering if the offered TPLink router is steady enuf.

Am .basic internet user (email, word processing, some vid conferencing, movies. No streaming and all.)

If you're a basic user, why bother going with the ONT when you could choose the ONR which is less complicated to set up and cheaper too.

Also, do you really need 5Gbps? If you're on a 500Mbps plan at around 30/month after contract, you may want to consider if it's worth your while to switch to get higher speed but likely makes zero difference for your daily use.

Yup am aware about the practical issues and HV considered all of them.

But I think my ten yo modem is giving me prob rather than my router ..

Having said that, are u able to assess whether the modem is the issue (I HV read exetensively hat say modem not likely the prob but does not entirely rule it out right)?

Router gives orange light and have to reboot several times to get it to turn green

I have gotten SH technicians to come to take a look twice; one changed adaptor of modem the other said modem too old to be changed cos SH server no longer supports it. Said my router is the issue

But what I've noticed is when there are certain panel lights that don't blink on tr modem, the router will definitely be orange for the internet light. But SH says not an issue.

Then modem too old for them to replace, so am unsure whether it's really the router issue.

Pls be patient as I am picking up the technicalities and. Issues just these past 2 maths and will be very ignorant....

It was history. I was using the ONR with 10Gbps homehub and the problem has been resolved after many of us worked closely with SH backend and tech support with the help of IMDA. SH also upgraded my ONR to ONT and 810.

No issue, the earlier issue has been resolved.

You're overthinking and scatterbrained. Your goal is to get as high of a throughput with as little maintenance and money. Go with the ONR 5Gbps plan.

This way everything is set up by Starhub. It's the cheapest and most hassle-free option for you. You're unlikely to saturate the 5Gbps, but you will get the most seamless experience.

You asked about modem and router but never once state their models. This is beyond you, don't sweat it, and you don't have to worry about it after you switch to the ONR 5Gbps plan. Any troubleshooting, call Starhub.

True. Starhub will also service the ONT and TP-Link EB810v too. So no problem too, just do not buy outside since not specialised in IT.
