you can sign up now...and install later. installation date can be pushed as far back as possible. if you wanna overlap some days with your singtel is also fine.
Does the new Starhub plan start charging from installation date onwards?
If yes, since there are 2 appointments, does it start counting only after both appointments completed?

I am using 2 routers. One is xiaomi router.

If I subscribe to starhub ONT, I can reuse the router? Because I heard ONT is more reliable than ONR

Has anyone used the Starhub 5Gbps ONT with Singtel's RT5703W wifi 6 router?
Planning to switch in March and wondering if I can tide over with the Singtel routers while I shop for better routers.

it will not work. Singtel issued WiFi 5/6 routers have built-in Singtel VLAN settings which cannot be disabled. They will not work with other ISP's ONT. They will automatically work as an AP after another router (including Singtel/Starhub ONR).

Singtel also issues some mesh nodes which cannot function as a router. They will not work with other ISP's ONT. They will automatically work as an AP after another router (including Singtel/Starhub ONR).

Yes you can.

Your speed will be limited by the Xiaomi router if your Xiaomi router has only 1Gbps WAN port or 2.5Gbps WAN port. The only Xiaomi router which support 10Gbps WAN port is Xiaomi BE10000.

reliability is subjective, because both ONT & ONR are prone to wear & tear overtime...

ONT is more to giving consumers the flexibility to use the full functionalities of their Third-Party Wireless Routers

Currently on M1 (500Mbps I think) for many years. $30 per month.

1. Router got abit issue. What's my best option here ?

2. Will the price remain after the 2 years contract ?

Hi guys, planning to change from m1 to StarHub 5gpbs promo.

is the 2 mesh router shown in the promo banner free? I tried to log in and sign up but they are charging $4/mth for each mesh router.

if I use the onr router and the wifi 6 mesh provide by StarHub, can I fully utilise the full speed for the 5gbps broadband? I’m using either wifi 6e or wifi 7 devices at home.

Or would it be better if I just chose ont and buy my own wifi 6e or 7 mesh router?

my usage is causal gaming (ea fc 25, Diablo, battlefield etc) + 3-4 other family member streaming shows (Netflix etc)

thanks!

1. Starhub 5Gbps offer at S$29.55 per month, ONR option
You mean the following two routers shown in the banner, right? They are free. You have to choose the 5Gbps offer ONR option.

Nokia ONR (AX6000, bigger one, 10G capable since it has one 10G LAN port) + Nokia Beacon 2 (AX1800, smaller one, 1G capable)

2. Starhub 5Gbps offer at S$29.55 per month, ONT option.
If you choose to go with the ONT option, then no router will be given. You have to buy the router (either from outside or from Starhub).

TP-Link EX510 is not worth the S$4 per month pricing. You can get much better ones outside, like TP-Link Archer BE230 at below S$100 BNIB from Carousell.
TP-Link HB710 is the one you want to pay if you go with ONT option at S$192. It is a 10G capable triband WiFi 7 BE18000 router which is of superb value.
More demanding user will get EB810v at S$360 or buy their own router.

If you are willing to pay, then ONT + EB810v / HB710 is a better option than the ONR option (Nokia ONR + Nokia Beacon 2).

3. More about Starhub issued routers.

a) 10G capable ones --> TP-Link HB710 (BE18000) vs TP-Link EB810v (BE22000) vs Nokia XS-2426X-A ONR (AX6000)
https://www.starhub.com/personal/broadband/routers.html

b) WiFi 6 routers (only up to 1Gbps).

4. Please read the sticky thread as well to see my comparison of the 5Gbps offer ONR vs ONT option.

Hi xiaofan, thanks for helping!

I think i'll go ONT. I noticed the mesh router sold by Starhub (HB710 and EB810v) is not sold on Shopee etc. Is the price sold by Starhub a good deal? If so, I will just get from Starhub directly.

I am staying in a 5 room HDB, would 2 x HB710 suffice for our family needs (streaming + gaming) or get 2 x EB810v?

TIA!

Just installed my 5Gbps broadband today. Using 1 HB710 in the living room. I'm getting Speedtest of download speed 400mbps on my M4 Mac mini on MLO connection in my bedroom. Is there any setting I can tweak or willl getting another router in my room helps to improve the connection significantly?

You can get some rough estimate of what your max gains in download speed will be by just temporarily setting up your Mac Min right beside the HB710 in the living room and testing the speed. Because distance between wifi router and device will always be an issue unless your device is close to where the wifi signal is coming from.

But note that even if you install another unit in your room, it should ideally be wired backhaul.

TP-Link HB710 and EB810v are TP-Link Service Provider models (basically mainly for ISPs) and they will not be avaialble from typical retail channels. They may lack a bit of features compared to the consumer models (eg: no Wireguard VPN feature) and will often be a bit slow in bug fixes or feaure enhancement (probaly because businesses are more conservative than consumers). But then the price will be lower.

TP-Link HB710 at S$192 is of superb value. EB810v at S$360 is also fair for those who want something better than HB710 (faster CPU, better wireless coverage, 2.5Gbps LAN ports).

You may want to post your floor plan (with details like location of the ONT and LAN ports in the rooms) to see whether it is better to go with EB810v + HB710, HB710 x 2 or EB810v x 2. It may mainly depend on your requirement for wired devices.

There is a new plan from Starhub --> 3Gbps with HB410 at S$39.91 per month, with HB410 (dual 2.5G ports, dual band WiFi 7 BE6500).

I do not think it is worth considering this offer since you can get the S$29.55 per month 5Gbps offer ONT option and then add the better HB710 (dual 10G ports triband WiFi 7 BE18000) at S$8 per month (or S$192 cash and carry) --> effective price at S$37.55 per month with a much better WiFi 7 router.

More about HB410 and HB710 from Starhub Broadband Router FAQ. I think HB410 at S$120 can be a good mesh node for EB810v users if you want to save a bit of money and if you can use wireless backhaul.
https://www.starhub.com/personal/support/article.html?id=LfNB5odcBt0mTG6Pr7GSB7

Is the TP-Link HB410 a 2.5Gbps router?
Yes, the TP-Link HB410 is a 2.5Gbps router. It has a 2.5Gbps WAN/LAN, 2.5Gbps LAN and 2 x 1Gbps LAN ports.

How does the TP-Link HB410 mesh work?
The TP-Link HB410 uses Easymesh* technology and is compatible with another TP-Link HB410. For the best performance and compatibility, we recommend meshing with another HB410, HB710 or EB810v.

* Mesh nodes that are available from other brands would not be compatible with the TP-Link HB410. We strongly recommend using another TP-Link HB410, TP-Link HB710 or EB810v for the best performance.

I need more coverage on my home network with the TP-Link HB410, what can I do?
You can extend the coverage by purchasing another TP-Link HB410 from StarHub. Additional units can be purchased at $5 per month for HB410 during initial sign-up or cash & carry from our retail store and Hub Troopers at $120 respectively.

Is the TP-Link HB710 a 10Gbps router?
Yes, the TP-Link HB710 is a 10Gbps router. It has a 10Gbps WAN/LAN and 1 x 10Gbps LAN port.

You can extend the coverage by purchasing another TP-Link HB710 or EB810v from StarHub. Additional units can be purchased at $8 per month for HB710, $15 per month for EB810v (for 24 months) during initial sign-up or cash & carry from our retail store and Hub Troopers at $192 or $360 respectively.

it will not work. Singtel issued WiFi 5/6 routers have built-in Singtel VLAN settings which cannot be disabled. They will not work with other ISP's ONT. They will automatically work as an AP after another router (including Singtel/Starhub ONR).

Got it, thanks so much this was exactly what I was trying to confirm.
Not a power user by any means and not particularly savvy but was thinking there might be some settings pre-configed for Singtel issued routers.

Wondering if there's any suggestions for 5Gbps router for a typical 4 room HDB setup with long corridor to 3 rooms layout, or will mesh be a must?
Previous experiences led me to mesh, cause I was also not sure if investing in a higher priced router would help with signal strength when router is placed in living room but trying to cover up to master bedroom at end of corridor.
