Workforce participation rate 2014 to 2024 increased from 67 to 68.2 percent

Resident workforce population in 2014 and 2024 labour report is 3,530,800 and 3,586,300 respectively
  • Hard to believe in 10 years the figure increase by 56k

PMET as total of workforce participation increased from 53.5 to 63.7 percent. That 10% growth in PMET as an overall of 3.6mil participation would be that 300k figure
  • As to how 63% went to locals, that is questionable due to the fact that we have declining TFR for decades and an ageing population
Total population as of 2024 is 6mil thereabout, there are 2.4mil unaccounted people, what are these people doing?

Note that retirees are already included in the 3.6mil workforce figure, but probably not all? The devil is in the details since no mention of specifics

Throw money for sinkie to upskilled, train and upgrade... Checked

Can sinkies get employed after training and upgrade? That's market forces, businesses and companies decision in hiring... if the sinkie cannot gets hired, can always take up jobs as cleaner, food delivery riders, PHV or taxi driver...

Kym?
the same can be said about pap

If you just edit this portion, I will be thinking that TSL is repenting for his team.
End of the day did they provide the statistic that were asked?

actually thanks to lmw and his annoyance, we finally got some way in getting some truths. A lot local born i know cannot be bothered by such stuff as they have cushy jobs and have not been buttered by the workforce enough to seng mok. If you have been buttered enough, u will know that even telling your employers about your ict may be an employment risk. you just have to llst,

SINGAPORE – Locally born Singapore citizens made up the bulk, or 63 per cent, of the growth in the number of residents with professional, managerial, executive or technical (PMET) jobs from 2014 to 2024.

Disclosing the figure in Parliament on March 7, Minister for Manpower Tan See Leng said that many naturalised Singaporeans and permanent residents who count towards the overall figure of 382,000 in that period are married to local-born Singaporeans as well.

“I really hope we should not keep harping on an us-versus-them mentality because Singapore is a largely immigrant nation. We are all here because we love this country,” Dr Tan added in his reply to questions from Non-Constituency MP Leong Mun Wai.

Dr Tan was speaking during the debate on the Ministry of Manpower’s budget, which lasted for close to five hours over two days starting on March 6, with 22 MPs rising to speak.

In the latest exchange, Mr Leong had asked about the displacement of existing resident PMETs by work pass holders who took up permanent residency.

Though Dr Tan expressed openness to exploring other statistics that could clarify the issue, he also said Mr Leong had been persistently harping on the division between foreign-born Singapore citizens and locally born Singapore citizens.

“My father, and I’m pretty sure Mr Leong’s father also, were not local-born Singapore citizens – and I benefited from here, just as (Mr Leong) has. We both want to do our best to serve our country.”

I don't get it... so the growth figures, % etc is provided...

Was the % and figures given for current all PMET jobs?

If can provide growth figures, or even mention majority of the non-locals in PMET jobs are married to locals, means they already have most if not all the numbers already? So got release or never release the numbers?
show us d data separating local born from pr n foreigners 1st
Arse want to gaslight history where there was no nationhood yet.
Can provide the data of local born ? Never see them release such info
Thought they have been saying foreigners is to support SG core? If there are more foreign pmets than sg pmets, whose the one doing the supporting? By not showing the separate numbers, he shows that he's not transparent.
National secret okay!!!

Be grateful pap disclosed the data

Still got 63% hor...

😂😂😂

Note that its 63% of "GROWTH"

It's not the ACTUAL % of PMET jobs held by local born

Also how did they get 63% of growth, when the following is also released by them:

In 2023, a staggering 94.5% of new jobs went to non-Singaporeans, sparking debate. The government's hesitancy to provide detailed employment breakdowns of Singaporeans and Permanent Residents raises concerns about the true impact on Singaporean workers in a rapidly changing job market.
“I really hope we should not keep harping on an us-versus-them mentality because Singapore is a largely immigrant nation. We are all here because we love this country,” Dr Tan added in his reply to questions from Non-Constituency MP Leong Mun Wai.

We were an immigrant nation.

We stabilised across the 1950s to the early 2000s, with 3 solid generations of Singaporeans.

Then your boss turned us into an immigrant nation again.

Secondly, I am here because I am born here and I have no where else to go to.

Most foreigners are here because they can get jobs that they otherwise can't get anywhere else in the world.

If they love this country, they won't be hiring their own and trying to turn this country into the ones they left.
What a waste of time to talk about each other father, ancestral history and such instead of just releasing the numbers...
