Yeah, Vietnam said they willing to bring their tariffs down to 0%, in the hopes US will also lift Vietnam's tariffs.

Because of this news, Nike and those companies whose factories are in the VN soared...

Ya sia, I was expecting SG or MY to give in first. Next, Japan. Never expect Vietnam. LOL

But if u read Trump's response properly, he doesn't seem to be very interested. He said he will meet Vietnam sometime in the future. This shows alot le, Trump does not want to reduce tariffs. He just want to put it there and see businesses returning to US.

about the rumored tiktok bid and defense department cloud recontract ... these 2 rumors providing support to Ama
there is also kuiper satellite launch on april9 , it's the future competitor to starlink ..... starlink was substantial part of spaceX's growth in private valuation
that atlas5 rocket is very safe , low chance of failure ... no worries

many factories already shifted to Vietnam
this might actually help big time

definitely a huge relief

PS. just saw NKE becomes green
Actually, come to think of it, Vietnam may be making a smart move (I take back that I say they humji for giving in first).

Faster settle first and get 0% tariff.

Then MNCs may all chiong to open factories in Vietnam. Vietnam got lots of land, cheal labour, and weak currency.

Vietnam will win in the long run. Not to mention, Trump will be around in his final 3 1/2 years nia...

Part of the US tariffs on Vietnam is also due to their trade deficit no? Even if Vietnam remove all tariffs also useless, since the US deficit is still there

You sure anot? Trump goal is to get those factory to open in USA, not vietnam. He also wants other countries (vietnam) to buy more USA products to reduce the trade deficit. But vietnam is too poor to do that

Besides, trump can just come up with more weird reason next month to tariff again. He got label vietnam as currency manipulator among other stuff

true

but if he doesn't give any concessions, why would other countries want to bend their knees?
he will have to give something back

unless he just purposely wants to see the whole world burn

No no, my thinking is...

If Vietnam faster makes a deal with the US to reduce tariffs to 0%. MNCs around the world, even those sellers at China, will faster move over to open factories in Vietnam so their products will be "Made in Vietnam" to bypass the tariffs. Whereas if they still sell at their own country they will face the tariffs and Americans won't buy since it is 10-97%+ more expensive than before.

And if many companies start pumping investments into Vietnam, the dong will appreciate and it won't be as weak as before. Everyone may benefit.

If those companies move back to the US to open up plants/factories, and with the labour cost, the overall is more expensive... And no doubt other countries will put tariffs on the US, so it is not feasible in the long-run...

Of course, my thinking and 'in theory' nia...
