You rem in 2011 before LKY became very ill, he said that he would like to challenge the 2 oppposition leaders (Chiam and Low) to have the guts and courage to leave their SMC “haven” and take on a GRC. He said that if they have the ambition, they will do that and that if they win, they get 5 representatives in parliament instead of just 1. Actually before he said that, LTK was already working on this plan of leaving Hougang to lead a GRC battle after 2006. After LTK won on the night at Aljunied, he thanks SM LKY for his words, he heeded his advice and won.
And LKY told aljunied voters to repent for the next 5 years, and they have since repented for 14 years and counting.... :o

SINGAPORE - Former senior civil servant Jasmin Lau and PAP veteran Victor Lye have been spotted at Ang Mo Kio GRC.

Both were seen alongside Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong at Hougang Village on April 13.

Ms Lau, 42, was previously deputy secretary (policy) at the Ministry of Health (MOH). She oversaw manpower, financing and regulatory measures in the healthcare system.

She was one of eight new faces revealed by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on April 12, who look set to run under the PAP banner in the coming General Election.

Mr Lye, 63, was part of the PAP team for Aljunied GRC in GE2015 and GE2020, which lost to the Workers’ Party.

He was the chairman of the PAP Bedok Reservoir-Punggol Branch for 13 years, but stepped down in February to hand over the reins to his vice-chairman, Dr Adrian Ang.

Mr Lye had said on his social media post then that “while my chapter here draws to a close, I look forward to new opportunities to serve and contribute to our collective vision of a better Singapore for all.”

Ang Mo Kio GRC, which is helmed by SM Lee, also includes MPs Ng Ling Ling, Gan Thiam Poh, Darryl David and Nadia Samdin.

The PAP team garnered 71.9 per cent of valid votes in the 2020 General Election against a Reform Party (RP) team.

Ang Mo Kio is the largest GRC, with 161,235 electors even after a new Jalan Kayu SMC is carved out of the GRC. The new SMC takes in areas that are currently in Ms Ng Ling Ling’s Jalan Kayu ward, and also parts of Mr Gan Thiam Poh’s Fernvale.

It is poised for a three-cornered fight in the upcoming polls with two opposition parties staking their claims on the ward.

People’s Power Party (PPP) secretary-general Goh Meng Seng said the party will field a team in a challenge to SM Lee.

The PPP’s team for Ang Mo Kio GRC will be headed by party treasurer William Lim, a 47-year-old who works as a limousine service provider.

The Singapore United Party (SUP) also said it will contest Ang Mo Kio GRC at the upcoming general election. SUP secretary-general Andy Zhu and his team, who had contested Ang Mo Kio GRC at GE2020 under the RP banner, polled 28.09 per cent of the votes.

Both have so far failed to reach a deal on which party to pull out to avert the three-cornered fight.

You clearly don't know anything about politics lol
You too. :s13:

It is all about own interest, not voter interests. Whether NSP or SDP makes no difference. PAP is just laughing behind their back. It is no rocket science to know that no opposition party can ever win in a multi-corner fight against the incumbent. Both Ng and Chee are educated men and yet they refused to see the light.

Let Chee breakdown in tears when the result is being announced. He will lose for sure.

Throwback

This is really nice. I was at this stadium on last night of the rally and the atmosphere was electrifying.

LTK played his cards really well. Apparently in the years before the 2011 elections, he was preparing for Yaw to take over him at HG and bringing him there for walk abouts and from what I heard, residents at HG assured Low that they will continue to support the WP candidate if he ever decides to leave HG and lead a team to other GRC.

Up till eve of nomination day, LTK refuses to give any clue of where he might stand, he says that it would be extremely difficult for him to leave HG when reporters interviewed him. On nomination day, he walks into the nomination centre with Sylvia, Pritam, CSM and Faisal. There was the speculation that PAP didn’t expect this move and hence fail to give sufficient “protection” to George Yeo or to shift him out of Aljunied in anticipation of the threat from WP. But Ah Gong’s words that Aljunied residents have 5 years to repent if they vote WP in actually stir up a significant sentiments against the ruling party then.
