The world has changed and it seems like a new world order. It is something none of us has been through given our age, I am not sure what gives you the confidence.
so we went through covid before it happened ?

what he means is anything can happen nowadays, even if not tariffs, there will be something else. we just have to focus and adapt accordingly.

covid so many ppl think they did so badly (evident from 2020 GE results) yet they still can pat themselves on the back and said they did a great job.

lol what is a new world order? the super powers...are still the same super powers?

Last i checked, we are still reliant on entreport trade - as a transshipment hub.

Also - a ministry department consist of the perm sec and the whole civil department. You mean without the minister the whole department fall?

Then i worry for the MDDI / MFA / MSF / MOE / MOH / MOT - because they seem to change leaders every 2 years. Must have been precarious.

lastly - no one is confident or scared. Look at the situation like an educated person and adjust your strategy. Fear mongering is senseless and non-value adding.

The tariff task force has no Shan / Vivi / CCS (ex trade MIT min) - that is more worrying.

Japan, Korea and a lot of European countries don't have natural resources. Plus, they are bigger in land area with a much bigger population thus the administrative duties in those countries are far more difficult in nature. Some of these countries are susceptible to natural disasters too.

Try asking LHL or LW to be the president of a country like U.S, SG is like slightly bigger than half the size of NY for your information.

Anyway, the British left behind a well-working infrastructure and a legal/civil system which the government built on. SG was not a fishing village when they left.

We were the most important of the Straits Settlements and already established as a thriving entrepot for regional trade by the mid-nineteenth century. When the British handed over control, they left behind Southeast Asia's leading port, a naval base, several airfields, and the accumulated soft and hard infrastructure from over a century of settlement

https://www.lowyinstitute.org/the-interpreter/singapore-50-time-s-fishing-village-narrative

Our importance as a strategic location at the southernmost tip of the Malay Peninsula particular at the Straits of Malacca, at a critical crossroads of trade between Asia and Europe meant that we were blessed with a geographical advantage.

Hong Kong, Macau, Shanghai, Rotterdam, Los Angeles and Tokyo are also similar to Singapore in that regards thus no surprise that all these areas also have a high trading volume due to their ports, thus leading to high GDP for all of them respectively.

Not discrediting the success by the early PAP (1G leaders like LKY, Goh Keng Swee, Toh Chin Chye, S Rajaratnam, Ong Teng Cheong and Devan Nair, etc.) supported by a robust civil service at that point (like Tommy Koh and Ngiam Tow Dong, etc.).

But if you think the current PAP of the last 10-20 years are still the same as those, you are greatly mistaken.

Why did you think TCB said that PAP has lost its way?

Why do you see the likes of Tommy Koh and so many people who used to work in Civil Service/Stat Boards/GLCs like Tan Suee Chieh, etc. speaking out against PAP?

You cannot confuse the current 4G leaders with the 1G leaders' success, there is only how long they can ride on the coattails of those who laid the foundation/blueprint, everyone who is sensible knows that the 4G leaders simply are nowhere close to being competent as the original 1G leaders.

Toh Chin Chye was anti-PAP in his last days for your information.
Let's agree to disagree then. I think many take our continued success today for granted, and I believe it is in large part due to the competence of the current generation of PAP leaders, even if there were mistakes along the way.

Know the difference between cyclical change and systematic change. You are comparing apple to oranges.

IN PICTURES: Highlights from the first Fullerton rally in 10 years

Close to noon, office workers gathered at the UOB Plaza, with many carrying takeaway lunches or cups of coffee, to hear Prime Minister Lawrence Wong deliver his speech at this election’s first lunchtime rally.

Other speakers at the PAP rally included Ms Indranee Rajah, Mr David Hoe, Mr David Neo, Ms Goh Hanyan, Madam Hazlina Abdul Halim, Mr Jagathishwaran Rajo and Dr Syed Harun Alhabsyi.

Also in attendance were Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his wife, Madam Ho Ching, and other PAP candidates.

The solution is to appoint oppo as minister.. no rule stating ruling party must take all minister position
Same like other country.. this is the best for the country
They got tens and tens to select from within their own party.

Govt will have ‘enough leeway’ even if all WP candidates are elected: Pritam Singh

0ab6ac.jpg

Even if all 26 WP candidates are voted into Parliament in this election, the Government will still have enough space to deal with issues of the day, said WP chief Pritam Singh at a media doorstop this morning.

He added that if Singaporeans vote all the opposition party’s candidates into Parliament, the ratio of WP MPs to ruling party MPs will be only “about two or three to nine”.

“The Government has enough space, enough leeway, enough focus to deal with the issues of today and tomorrow,” said Mr Singh.

During the interview, Mr Singh and his party members also fielded questions from the reporters about the NTUC Income Insurance-Allianz saga, foreign interference in local politics, and the reception that Tampines residents have given the WP team.
