Singapore's main opposition party WP appears to have retained a comfortable hold on its crown jewel of Aljunied GRC, with 59 per cent of the vote, based on a sample count.
The PAP team contesting Aljunied garnered 41 per cent, according to the early count.
This is largely similar to the final result in GE2020, where WP won 59.95 per cent of the vote in Aljunied, and the PAP received 40.05 per cent.
In Sengkang GRC, which went to WP in 2020, the opposition party is also in the lead - taking 56 per cent of the vote, based on the early count. Its PAP opponents have 44 per cent of the vote.
If the sample count is anything to go by, WP appears to have improved its lead in the constituency. In 2020, it received 52.12 per cent of the votes cast in Sengkang, beating the PAP, which won 47.88 per cent.
The PAP's Mr Desmond Choo is, however, in the lead in the newly created Tampines Changkat SMC, with 55 per cent of the vote, against WP's Mr Kenneth Foo, with 45 per cent.
The sample count has a 4-percentage-point margin of error.
