the AMK one really epic

if only one oppo ran, sure can get back deposit, end up kena worst case scenario
SUP last time from RP one if they never say the election deposit is the "least of our worries" then they may secure a few more % over the PPP to save their deposit. So end up abt 50-50 split.
Election deposit is the “least of our worries”, says SUP

Going into a three-way fight in the PAP stronghold of Ang Mo Kio GRC, the Singapore United Party (SUP) said it does not have a target vote share and is not concerned about losing its election deposit.

All candidates standing in a General Election must pay a S$13,500 deposit that will be forfeited if the candidate loses and does not secure more than 12.5 per cent of the votes.

“Honestly, that’s the least of our worries,” said Mr Nigel Ng, who is contesting the GRC with four teammates.

“We're doing this not because we want to get back the deposit, but we do it because we want to help to serve the residents here,” he told reporters before visiting residents at their homes.

Asked about the possibility that smaller parties split the opposition vote, Mr Ng said the opposition is still a voice for the people.

“Whatever we are doing, end of the day, it’s also all about the residents here," he added.

Mr Ng also thanked residents who have been supportive towards the team, such as by offering them water during their walkabout.

“I had a resident who came up to us and say that, oh, they’ve been expecting us to come down to see them,” he said. “I think that says a lot about what we’ve been doing.”

Party chief Andy Zhu called on voters to choose SUP: “We will improve, we will do better as the days come, not just today … it will not be our last visit with the residents.”

He said the party will continue to serve residents regardless of the results on May 3.

Commentary: Why did some opposition parties see stinging losses at GE2025?

As the dust settles from the General Election, it has become apparent that Singapore’s opposition parties fall into different tiers, says Reuben Ng of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.

Maybe its better for mosquito parties to sit out next election and let 4 or 5 GRC walkover since they have no money to put posters and organist rallies

'Blatant & irresponsible': Elections Department on Sengkang woman who secretly filmed voting process

While the footage did not show how other voters had cast their vote, and so did not compromise the secrecy of their vote, ELD said such blatant and irresponsible behaviour can undermine public confidence in the integrity of the electoral process.

The Elections Department Singapore (ELD) has criticised the behaviour of a social media user who secretly filmed the voting process on Polling Day.

ELD said such "blatant and irresponsible behaviour" can undermine public confidence in the integrity of elections.

This came after a TikTok user uploaded footage of herself voting on Polling Day, including a 2-second clip featuring the voting booth as well as her ballot paper.

In the video, the woman said that she knew the taking of photos and videos was strictly prohibited, but she "secretly" did so anyway.

The TikTok account has since been made private.

Similar videos recording the voting process were posted to Douyin on Polling Day, May 3, but were later removed, according to Stomp.

ELD's response

In response to media queries, an ELD spokesperson said ELD was aware of the case involving the voter in Sengkang, who recorded and uploaded footage taken of herself at the polling booth within a polling station on Polling Day.

"We have reviewed the incident carefully. We note that the footage does not carry any information on how other voters had cast their vote, and therefore did not compromise the secrecy of their vote."
"Nevertheless, such blatant and irresponsible behaviour can undermine public confidence in the integrity of the electoral process," said the spokesperson.

ELD said it will strengthen voter education efforts to reinforce awareness of the do's and don'ts at polling stations.

It will also strengthen its training to remind election officials to watch out for and stop such behaviours in future elections.

The 2025 General Election results were not just a reflection of voter sentiment, but also of how effectively parties communicated their vision, built trust, and demonstrated readiness to govern.

The PSP’s complete exit from Parliament, despite the vocal presence of Leong Mun Wai and Hazel Poa, signals a disconnect between their approach and what voters were looking for. Their confrontational style, while principled in intent, may have come across as combative or lacking in constructive engagement. In fact, PSP’s vote share dropped significantly across all constituencies they contested—West Coast-Jurong West GRC fell from 48.3% in 2020 to just 39.99% in 2025 1. That’s not a minor dip; it’s a clear signal that their message didn’t resonate as strongly this time.

Moreover, criticisms of the Workers’ Party (WP) for being “too quiet” overlook the strategic value of measured opposition. WP retained all 10 of its elected seats and even gained two more NCMP positions 2. That’s not silence—it’s effectiveness. Their approach of picking battles wisely and focusing on long-term credibility appears to have earned them sustained voter trust.

It’s also worth noting that PSP’s rhetoric, particularly on sensitive issues like foreign manpower, was criticized for being overly populist and potentially harmful to Singapore’s economic interests 3. This may have alienated moderate voters who value both accountability and pragmatism.

In politics, being vocal isn’t enough. Voters reward those who balance principle with poise, and who can offer not just critique, but credible alternatives. The results speak volumes—not just about who shouted the loudest, but who earned the most trust.

They cannot make the new citizens angry. They are the votes for the incumbent. If ELD jailed this lady, the MIW better pray hard that new citizens will still vote for them.
Then, they should cancel the law since they cannot enforce it.
It is a case of knowing the law and breaking it.
The unit in charge should be questioned over their failure in enforcement.
Dun tell me that there are multiple ways of reading the law now.
It is total nonsense.

This is how the system works. MIW controls the entire system in Singapore. They are the ones calling the shots. To let go or to prosecute is all determined by them. This is the attribute of one-party system. Take it or leave it. Even If you bring it to the court, u will still lose.

If the person is not new citizen but a local born then the outcome will not be the same?
