the education system here is already a joke then add in NS for the guys, 19 finish poly go straight into NS, brain no need use for 2 years, by ORD your diploma education theory is already behind by 2 years, then you go into UNI ok give you NUS 3 years,

by the time finish and ready to find job, you got 2 years of obsolete theory from diploma days + 3 years of fresh textbook theory vs foreigners that is ok with lower salary with at least 6-7 years of real life work experience and probably around the same age as the fresh grad whom wants higher salary

Who will you pick to handle the job?

[SINGAPORE] Fresh graduates face a double whammy of fewer job openings and a growing mismatch between vacancies and skills.

Studies conducted by LinkedIn revealed that the labour market has tightened for jobseekers in Singapore, with the number of job postings per applicant falling 8 per cent over the last year to March.

“This means stiffer competition, with more graduates chasing fewer roles today,” said the professional networking site in a report released on Thursday (May 8).

In addition, employers are expecting candidates to be even more qualified, further widening the talent gap in the labour market, LinkedIn found. In a separate survey which polled over 500 human resources (HR) professionals in Singapore, recruiters revealed that half or less than half of job applications met their requirements and preferred qualifications for roles over the past year.

The most prominent hiring roadblock was difficulty in finding candidates with the right soft skills for a role, with 50 per cent of respondents describing it as a top challenge, while 44 per cent indicated that candidates’ lack of technical skills for a role ranked among the largest obstacles.

I read this article a few times and I feel that it is more about skills mismatch which makes me wonder if our universities are not teaching the correct things?

Wasn't there supposed to be transfer of skills from our talented FTs?

And before that, our Education Ministry did not talk to our Ministry of Manpower and Ministry of Trade and Industry to pivot the courses provided in local Universities to meet the industry needs?

Or only Uptron University can provide the graduates for our Industries?

The real reason is not skills gap. It is always something else.
Akshually: Deglobalization trend and high interest rate in US. But this is too politically sensitive, because the blame is on the employer & govt, not employee.

Must change the rules to insist CEOs of all MNC in SG just be Singaporean. All fresh grad sure employed within one month.
Unfortunately that is not the case. CEOs whether sinkie or non sinkie main kpi is to ensure the business is hitting it's kpi and profitability. It's the middle management e.f. directors, senior managers who has the most control and influence over hiring

You go to the weekly MPS see many asking for money. Lots of people queuing up for free bread and groceries.

When local fresh grads tio hiam got "skill gaps" in local job market, you know it simply means fake talent recruiting managers only want to hire their kind.
