Most of the time will be watching 1080p videos and movies.

Is 1440p suitable for me? Or stick with 1080p?

Don't take any middle ground. For 16:9 aspect ratio movies, it's either 1080p or 2160p aka 4K. Found this one below which looks like a fantastic deal. Have it ship to a friend in Malaysia...

What's the reason?

Many movies are using 16:9 aspect ratio and 1080p resolution. So when you play such movies on your screen, there will be zero black borders or minimal black borders plus it will be pixel perfect. When movie and your screen has different resolution, it will have some interpolation or extrapolation resulting in distortion and thus not pixel oerfect. So, the next upgrade in movie quality is 4K, so the same applies, you only want a pixel perfect screen for your video. 4K video is 2160p and playback on a 2160p will be pixel perfect and again zero to minimal black borders. If you have more molar, 31" 2160p IPS will be even better.
