Stuff Verdict
The Xperia 1 VII still flies the flag for features long forgotten elsewhere, which will please the Sony faithful. It takes mostly great photos too, but the old school approach isn’t for everyone.
Pros
Cons
- Modern performance without sacrificing fan favourite features
- Class-leading ultrawide and a brilliant lead lens
- Colourful, notch-free screen is fantastic for mobile movies and gaming
- Beaten for zoom stills clarity and point-and-shoot ability
- Battery life and charging speeds no longer class-leading
- Refusal to get with the times won’t win over new customers
@RyanJ
Here is comparison with Xperia 1VI on:
1. Display brightness (vii won)
2. Battery life (super close)
3. Heat control and stability (vii won)
4. Ultra wide (vii won. Better everything)
5. Wide angle (you can see the zhng ongoing here as well. Better HDR)
6. Telephoto (vii also zhng contrast better and slightly more details see the 7.1 times clock tiny minute dots, better HDR )
7. Telemacro (because of better HDR & detail it will likely look better)
8. Speaker quality ( slight edge to vii)
9. Night shot ( guess again)
Overall nice improvements ~
Their original casing is very good, but their leather case is terrible, I tried on mark III, 6 months later, it disintegratedSony give free casing you dunwan? Or you prefer full cover better ?
Congrats on your purchase too.![]()
He did compare to what other cameras he had like VOX [ vivo , oppo, xiaomi ]HE did not do photo comparison like what the japanese videos did.
I rather the angmo guy do this type of comparison. This is then the real comparison. The angmo can talk all he wants but no side by side comparison also not convincing enough.
Also , sony actually had the improvements for the predecessor phone planned way ahead. They cannot instantaneously show hand everything. If not, in the future they will have nothing to improve upon with only the processor and ram improvements. Those who stick long with Sony will have already known their strategies.
The upcoming xperia 1VIII might or might not come with new improved telephoto sensors, they might again stick with this current sensor and again zhng the software to even better processing prowess (max out the sensor & software imaging capabilities).
SO it's forever either you save up for it and buy, or you don't buy / wait for the next flagship. You jump ship they don't care. They just focus on their planned product improvement. That's their strategies and they survived while other companies like LG & HTC got off mobile segment.
So you mean Sony do not have corporate strategy?HTC and LG failed because of their corporate strategy, isnt because they cant produce....
they have banger products but mismanagement was the issue,
Sony still manage to survive, is because of the diversity portfolio [ Actual tv, cameras, lenses etc ]
the HK dude, honestly, seems to be shelling in my personal view, because he skipped the selection of how each photos was taken [ e.g if one uses x200 U from vivo, turning off HDR and -100 sharpness ] will bring about Sony's type of feel.
filter, styles etc can be replicated to a certain degree, and is up to individual to interpret and how they like.
BUT , the main problem , at least when it comes to sony xperia reviews, its very very selective. Ive not gripes if its just comparison with the own products, and how improved or lack of it is, its within the group of Sony folks ,
however when it tries to be [ expensive like apple ] and claims to be best [ mobile photography] , it should and must take all forms of criticism
and yes, i hope i could someday go back sony, [ love the walkman app, even ported to my iOS till this day ] but alas, the years of forum , reddit and youtube... says other wise....
Of course, here is sony group discussion, im not gonna keep raining the parade, rather reviewers online are doing a diservice , for those who arent keeping up with times, expect [ Sony ] branding to be what it was in the xperia z era....
and i wouldnt have known how bad it was until i saw the price they are asking the the performance it actually outputs..... save for the Tracking and app interace which is by far still the most intuitive, which Sharp Aquos copied some
The new Audio IC (“Audio IC – HFT973”) achieves significantly stronger output levels than the previous generation. The 3.5mm headphone jack uses audiophile-grade materials and is optimized for low distortion and high resolution. Compared to earlier Xperia models, the volume and clarity are greatly improved, especially with high-impedance headphones. So what's up with the DAC? Did anyone find any concrete information on what DAC they are using?
HTC basically bailed out by selling most of their smartphone chops to Google for the. Pixel. They only either comission odms or license their name to other companies.HTC and LG failed because of their corporate strategy, isnt because they cant produce....

They probably have a very different outlook than LG to keep Xperia running for so long.So you mean Sony do not have corporate strategy?
Again. Conclusion. Sony stayed alive despite many said they will close. That's a strategy coming from their company.
LG also has diversity portfolio. Still close mobile division.
As for comparison , at least the HK guy makes effort to take photos and videos to compare and describe together. That alone says a lot rather than what the angmo did - talking without proving with anything. For the photos and videos settings , you think the HK YouTuber is so despicable / stupid to do such setting and ruin his youtube reputation? Plus quality can measure across other videos, no horse run.
Also , since when did Sony claim the best in mobile photography? They have one of the best manual settings in photo and video pro that which is true. From the other videos we can also see that they improve every generation. That's what Sony is good at , like what I stressed earlier.
Now plus walkman , and AI auto framing that's another up for 1Vii and when you add up it's quite a lot of improvement over the 1VI.
Woah update from this site. Performance and stability compared between 1V 1VI and 1VII. The performance improvements and stability overall improved!
Read and write speeds from their UFS storage compared also increased everything! Only the micro sd again did not improve.. hope they change the and improve! (The 1vi can initial around 1GB /S and straight away drop down to a few hundred then slowly to 31MBPS in the long sun. Hope 1VII can go longer! )
