Ong Ye Kung I am dismayed at the monthly rental bid of over $52,000 (or over $1,000 psm) for a GP clinic in Tampines

Doctors and lawyers are protected industries.

They command high earning power from low competition.

Since the day polyclinic sets some new stupid rules to discourage walk ins. It drove more people to these private clinics who are charging alot more than in the past.

They should dismantle all these protection for these professions. The best brains should be in engineering and IT to bring the country forward, not in legal or medical. :(

in Asia is where engineers are paid low. Cos of competition and over supply from the populous countries in Asia.

You are correct without protection the professionals will not command premium salaries anymore. But then the standards may be subject to scrutiny.

Actually why is it that the engineering profession in SG never protect themselves with licensing? Everyone just give P Eng?

If bigger polyclinics and hospitals got better care and shorter waiting times, these neighbourhood GP clinics would naturally collapse on their own without any intervention

Pte GP clinics are for those with health insurance. Company plans. Also those richer one dont want to wait long queue at Polyclinic. Or like the doctor at the GP clinic and trust him/her (very valuable).

Not so straightforward that Polyclinic can cause collapse of pte GP clinics so easily.

If part of company corporate plan, who care? Company pay what, just close one eye lor. Then if own pocket also never mind — here in Singapore people mindset is like that one: expensive means sure good, confirm ++ chop!

Even if the rent is lower, they're totally going to pass those savings on to us, right? - tkk

Dun think will affect consumers. If they charge too high no one will go. Usually they only carrot those with insurance coverage. There's this clinic at my place. When I chut health insurance card they whack all the expensive branded medicines for me. But when I chut my blue chas card. Suddenly become very cheap with all generic subsidised medication some they dun have so they order from outside and send to me. Same medication from polyclinic which is subsidised.

from another angle, this clinic services might not be cheap from the start. that is why from their calculation, they are still able to profit from such rent.

from this angle, the rent is not the direct factor of the price of its services. just that with a lower rent, they have the option to adjust their price when things dosent work out but i think they probably wont.

Yes it's always our fault
More people take statins because the cutoff keeps dropping. But statins are not known to be effective for heart disease. LDL isn’t the story. Heart disease still rises. Patients never learn what really drives their disease, or what happens when statins flood the population.

Since the bid is so high, just offer another shop to be clinic too. Sure lower the rental but then again will doctor lower their fee even if rental is low lollll.
This is what I call a good solution. Great Job.

With competition, it will not happen. Go to those old mature estates and see for yourself. Literally 3 to 4 clinics within a neighborhood.
