Only advantage of self checkout is the queue faster than cashier queue

other than that, lose to human cashier in terms of payment process and packing service

In terms of waiting time depends on who r at the q
Som boomers n domestic workers may take quite a while to clear there either they r unaware of using the kiosks or the domestic workers hav a lot of things to buy so may take a while

At counter customers may get info on pdts promos or those tiongs dun udst English can jam up the q

You can take your own time to arrange the items in your eco-friendly carrier bag, for optimal weight distribution and to avoid crushing bread etc.

One downside is that it is slower than having the cashier pack for you.

No personal preference, whichever is the fastest I would go for it. Cashier queue mostly slower due to boomers using cash/vouchers/unpriced items & also asking questions.

Self checkout ONLY IF

The system is flexible enough let customer delete extra scanned item

Or override wrong info on screen.

Alot of items, cashier easier. Little items, self checkout faster. But if no cash option, won't bother patronising.

IMHO.
Weekend I buy grocery above $200. I prefer cashier to help me pack into plastic bag.
