Think first day should know. Many just got sold by the marketing to ignore the cons. Until they experience it themselves. :s22:

If our cars cost 20k to 30k, then changing a new batt is like buying a new car.

But thanks to arf, coe, etc our cars are more like 200k to 300k so changing a batt is 10% of costs nia.

4d chess by pap.
Still cheaper than the COE? In before some leaders come out say that if people are willing (gong enough) to spend so much money buy a piece of paper for limited time use only. Then they should be no problem (or gong enough also) to spend a little lesser change battery. That's why locals kanna 吃的死死 by incumbent until no choice but to swallow whatever crap incumbent throw at them. :s22:

What's the most difficult thing to manage is the decline in range over the years. The manufacturer claim 500km/charge is only good for the first year or so. As the battery age, your range could be so bad that you may need to charge everyday.

ICE cars also have this issue, just that you just need to pump more petrol each time. And if you do an overhaul, your range will improve at a fraction of the cost

Think even the manufacturer claim is also just for reference only. Not possible to achieved in real life. Cause that max range is when max out the battery to zero. But who will drive like that in real life. After that how, push the car ah.

Think many probably will start looking out for the power once past 50%. And desperately looking to do charging when hit 80% range. So, the actual distance can travel per charge is actually much shorter in between charges. Thus charging is a constant worry for ev driver bah.

Buy ev la

"Its cheaper, saves the environment, reduces carbon footprint"

- from edmw ev supporters
Saving environment they say then come up with all sorts of stats to proof it.
I agree non-petrol cars are the future, BUT do they need to be electric?

many EV options now:

All cars were evaluated based on a total of eight criteria by the panel of judges from Sgcarmart's Editorial team. Scores were given to each car based on its design, features, performance, economy, safety features, functionality, and value for money. The scores given by the judges accounts for 50% of final score that each car gets, the other half of the score is derived from consumer votes. As a result, each winner is not only Sgcarmart's choice, but also the absolute choice of consumers who represent the drivers and car buyers in Singapore. And the unanimous choice for the ultimate award of the Sgcarmart Car of the Year 2024 is the BYD Seal Electric.

Her every point is valid and to add that aircon consume much battery juice especially in hot weather. Degradation of battery become obvious after daily usage of one year or so. EV drivers, agree?

But again, mostly ladies (female) love and prefer EV

to be fair, her 15 points can be summarized as battery tech and charging problems.

Some of it isn’t applicable to SG context and her 6yr old EV battery likely also considered outdated by current standards.

in the near term, electric is the most viable technology while other techs are being improved. Especially if safer nuclear power generation are adopted as the power source. Although the same could be used to power hydrogen infra, the tech maturity not there yet.

The most challenging aspect of EV is that no country has found an effective solution to deal with EV fires.

Current SOP is to let the car burn down by itself..
already have solution ma, just have to submerge the car/battery in water. Just not practical haha

that's the scary part, ladies prefer EV. Reminds me of the lady in the su7 that hit 15 cars and some people recently

not only hot weather ... her points also cover in winter time too ... so I guess EV cars can't perform or last in most extreme weather condition ... :s13:

EV battery performs better in hot rather than cold weather.

Not to worry.

This gap can be easily close by introducing environmental tax of 30-40% when changing EV batteries. This is to "better reflect" the potential harm to our environment lol.
