IMHO.
My ex-car, the AD will try their best not to change parts. :ROFLMAO:
Ya, especially if they have to tank the replacement

Even if it's covered by the manufacturer, there's a long checklist to clear before they can initiate the replacement

Suspect the ADs are also rewarded if they keep the replacements down hahah

there is always pro and con... where got 100 pro and no con?
the biggest problem for now is.... distance and batt swap...
you top up just 5mins or so..
you charge can take 2hrs or even more...

All cars were evaluated based on a total of eight criteria by the panel of judges from Sgcarmart's Editorial team. Scores were given to each car based on its design, features, performance, economy, safety features, functionality, and value for money. The scores given by the judges accounts for 50% of final score that each car gets, the other half of the score is derived from consumer votes. As a result, each winner is not only Sgcarmart's choice, but also the absolute choice of consumers who represent the drivers and car buyers in Singapore. And the unanimous choice for the ultimate award of the Sgcarmart Car of the Year 2024 is the BYD Seal Electric.

But ardent EV owners would say they can save that much due to lower maintenance etc etc ;)
Ya maintenance is low... Battery replacement is not... 10y warranty... We will only know when we reach there... The manufacturer 80-70% capacity might be different from what the owner perceived... Have fun...

If EV and ICE/Hybrid almost same price... Then I take ICE, since potentially petrol is free... Of course those that keep changing cars no issue... People like me driving coe car... It affects me.

Doubt this swapping battery will be easy for car owners. Which new car owner want their new battery swap with an used one? And the risk of fire may increase too.

thats why they are selling the car without the battery.

if you think of it this way, i will always have good battery, as its checked by the manufacturer. battery quality guaranteed by manufacturer 85%. dont have to worry about changing battery in 5 to 8 years time.

of course, the caveat is renting the battery will be more expensive than charging.

Plus each charge would shorten battery life?

Not impossible.

Sell cars without the batteries. Batteries be produced in Singapore by I dunno Singapore technologies? Then they are serialised.

So when you swop batteries, you can only swop with Singapore made batteries so they are more or less “guaranteed” since with each swop, the old battery is charged and checked.

You go overseas swop to a Malaysian battery and come back to swop to Singapore battery- can. With a surcharge

i think more possible scenario when travelling overseas, you are not allowed to swap, but to charge only. my guess.

IMHO.
I continue with hybrid. Last full tank calculated for 43 litres is 1,027 km ( 10.26 cents/km ).
Typical is between 900-1,000km.
Average - Each tank refuel about 32L, mileage 745 km and every 11 days.

when the "time is up", i will renew 10 year for current car.

while i have looked at EV, but i felt that i will not get EV for two reasons:
1) i quite dislike having the need to move car to normal lot after charging. especially within shopping malls. I already dislike hunting for available lot in malls.
2) i have sorta charging anxiety for my mobile phone that i need to always keep it at 100% when i leave house. With the EV, i will probably fare worse.

Check the road tax for EV first before buying. I see some Tesla road tax is as high as $5000 per year

Why need to be so angst?

I drive an EV and charge in malls or office. some locations in fact have a lot of spare chargers and btw I don’t need to charge everyday … each full charge on modern EVs usually can support 300-400km. yet to see any news on some EV in SG flat on battery due to unavailability of chargers…

Personal lifestyle:
1) Agree. For malls I prefer slow AC charging - usually around 10% charge/hr - fits well within my mall dining/shopping timing. I charge probably once every 3-4 days to keep the battery level above 40%

2) I know my phone will last a day without issue at full charge. Similarly for EV I will know how many Km I’m left with. SG is actually a very small and suitable city for EV Range. A full charge can last me more than 400km. I have driven to 1% left before :p

actually what I like most about EV is the ability to wait/camp inside car with aircon and entertainment without feeling guilty (or being illegal parking with exhaust emission). I can just retreat to my car to rest and wait anytime.

There are legal issues too. Imagine swap with a faulty battery that caught fire and burn the vehicle?
If you accept the T&Cs, then liability will be covered by insurance

Thought of the Sealion for this reason, the others seems to be unwilling to go deep into EV or their EVs are far from being perfect, just branding, but cars in SG is not like US we unhappy can just swap out or what, so the dilemma is there.
Yes the legacy brands are late to EV through their own complacency. And others especially China brands has not only caught up but surpassed them. Legacy brands relying on brand perception now. There is always a big consumer base who are still willing to pay for brand and badge perception.

Before this swapping of battery can take effect, car manufacturers must standardize their battery to make swapping possible.
