"Your future really depends on what you make of it. The government can give you that framework, can give expression to the will of the people, but the people must have that will. If you don't have it, there is nothing that the government can do."

LKY's last National Day Rally speech. Many Singaporeans left in 1988 because the economy went down.

We thought COVID was bad 5 years ago. It actually wasn't too bad and as a country, we managed the situation well.

The fallout from COVID is however very bad and currently rearing its ugly head.

Many SMEs have realized because of COVID that they do not need warm bodies in the office. In fact, they can save on office rental.

Higher costs of living is not a problem as long as wages are high. But because wages are high, SMEs are now outsourcing their headcounts overseas.

The rise of AI has not eliminated too many jobs in Singapore, but it definitely had an impact on the creation of new jobs. Most fresh graduates do not write better or do better work than AI, so why would companies hire them? But if the fresh graduates do not have the opportunity to learn, how would they ever learn?

60 years we have come as a country. There is no reason to expect that things will always be humming along.
There have been good times; there will be bad times.

There is likely no way out of our current situation except to have a nasty recession. If people should choose to leave, I think it's a good thing. Singapore is v small; Singaporeans should go out there and see the world.

Singapore is not a bad place, albeit expensive. Maybe the Singapore Story should be one where our people go overseas to make their money and then come home to retire.

How about youngsters addicted to kpods, kids bullying at sch, graduates unable to find job for months or years? 40s getting retrenched then cannot find similar job, elderly picking cardboard exercise or daily go snatch freebies at donation corners, 20s/30s suffering from mental illnesses due work/home/unemployed/heavy debts stress?

I already left Singapore. And Singapore has told me that I am not welcome back anymore.

Do you want to come back? Thought life in Canada is better ?
SG better place to make money. Low income tax. No capital gain taxed. No investment income tax. High salaries. Property huat.
Good to travel all around the world from. SGD strong. Cheap food. Cheap maid. Good healthcare. Those are the plus points.
