To all Singaporeans.
I envy you. I envy the benefits you enjoy as Singaporeans.
You all are very fortunate.
All the best to future prosperity and happiness.
Happy National Day!

That's why don't give up SG citizenship. Just be a PR in a foreign land.

One of my friends is a PR in Australia, living there for more than 10 years. Lifestyle is so much better than Singapore.
I believe it's much more expensive to retire in aussie than sg?

I am already Canada citizen. I gave up my Singapore citizenship foolishly decades ago. I only have Canada citizenship now. No PR anywhere else. Can apply SG PR? ICA told me cannot anymore. I am a traitor.

It depends, if you have young chewren, it maybe better to stay in Canada. Also, I think Trump is doing a good job to help Canada get rid of woke culture, a soft version of covid.

The majority of the FT that come here on SP and EPs also relax all the way during childhood, a lot can't even speak english properly when they just arrive. But they have soft skills, which is more important than acadamic and real skills in Singapore corporate world. Degree, very easy to get overseas anyway. Now with AI, actual skills even less important. Why spend so much time learning english and maths when it is going to be done by AI anyway?

It depends on what kind of lifestyle do you want.

My friend stays in a super big landed which you will never be able to afford in Singapore unless you are ultra rich. But in Australia, it is normal because it has big land.

Cars are dirt cheap. Most families have 2-3 cars. COE is joke to the Aussies.

Australia has four seasons so it makes your life very different as compared to Singapore with 1 season.

There are many more differences.

The biggest drawback is the healthcare system. That’s why retained your SG citizenship. Come back for healthcare when you need.

I don't consider AU 4 seasons. Their winter is not really winter.
Is funny how when in SG the SGreans complain SG healthcare no good. But will say it is good when talking to foreigners.

If you stay in foreign land, you will appreciate Singapore healthcare, one of the best in the world. That’s why keep your SG citizenship and just be PR of foreign land will do. Come back to Singapore for treatment.

Australia has 4 seasons. This is a fact. Whether the winter is to your liking is your individual preference.

"Your future really depends on what you make of it. The government can give you that framework, can give expression to the will of the people, but the people must have that will. If you don't have it, there is nothing that the government can do."

LKY's last National Day Rally speech. Many Singaporeans left in 1988 because the economy went down.

We thought COVID was bad 5 years ago. It actually wasn't too bad and as a country, we managed the situation well.

The fallout from COVID is however very bad and currently rearing its ugly head.

Many SMEs have realized because of COVID that they do not need warm bodies in the office. In fact, they can save on office rental.

Higher costs of living is not a problem as long as wages are high. But because wages are high, SMEs are now outsourcing their headcounts overseas.

The rise of AI has not eliminated too many jobs in Singapore, but it definitely had an impact on the creation of new jobs. Most fresh graduates do not write better or do better work than AI, so why would companies hire them? But if the fresh graduates do not have the opportunity to learn, how would they ever learn?

60 years we have come as a country. There is no reason to expect that things will always be humming along.
There have been good times; there will be bad times.

There is likely no way out of our current situation except to have a nasty recession. If people should choose to leave, I think it's a good thing. Singapore is v small; Singaporeans should go out there and see the world.

Singapore is not a bad place, albeit expensive. Maybe the Singapore Story should be one where our people go overseas to make their money and then come home to retire.

Yes, only Singaporeans like to be chopped carrots. My Singapore friend living in Australia is laughing all the way to the bank. S$100K for a piece of paper that lasts only 10 years. Can buy 3 cars and use them perpetually until scarp.

You are absolutely right. If you make money in foreign land, you will never come back except for healthcare.

Its a good piece of practical advice. That does not invalidate the circumstance. People may say ya, but at least we better than xxx country. Be contented. however, most times the xxx country is a developing country. and not to mention the conscription factor.
