Well of course if it's a either you die or he dies situation, he will choose himself over you. That's natural. But that doesn't mean he won't help you if he can when he's a good colleague/friend. I got my current job (and past) due to recommendations by ex colleagues.

when you young, just started out to work, you easily feel other ppl are good to you

in reality, all are good until you have conflict of interest. there is no friend at work. those u started out gossip together, one day will use what you said against you. if anyone reading this still young, dont 'talk heart' with working people and dont friend

as you age, you rather just go office, do your stuff, then go home.

one of the reason u are more likely to have buddy from outside or those since school, because u dont work at the same place together.

Not only colleague, such thing could also happen in family be it sibling, parent, children

Nowaday family bonding is not as strong as last time and majority are selfish

Ppl only friend or approach you when they need help or wanna borrow money
